Hi I suffer with very painfull feet which are always worse at night, in the past 3 to 4 years I have had several neuromas taken out of both feet (3 operations on 1 foot and 2 on the other) but my feet are still very painful. After being on Amitriptyline, Gabapentin and Tramadole (last 2 meds didn't suit me) I have thought about having acupuncture for pain and hopefully to help me sleep. Has anybody else tried acupuncture?

Acupuncture
Hi Margaret taking magnesium and looking at your D3 and B12 levels would be good. From what I have researched the Thyroid medication they keep us on depletes all the nutrients and makes us deficient in them which leads to painful joints Inc feet x
Am in the same situation, plus my feet tingles a lot. So you also have very tight Achilles' tendon? I do and my chiropractor gives me acupuncture at my calf level. This being said, I roll a frozen ball or a water bottle under my feet to release the pressure as I also have plantar fasciitis and heel Spurs... My doctor is also sending me for an Mri to figure out if I have nerve damage (tarsal tunnel syndrome, which we, hypo, people are more prone to develop). The arch of my feet are really painful. I go for foot massage regularly and ice my feet every night. I am not seeing any improvement but I am getting orthotics tomorrow and will see if it improves my situation with the neuromas.
Take care
You sound as if you are in the same situation, do you take anything at night to help you sleep? I have orthotics but did not improve anything. Had an X-Ray last week that come normal but wonder if I should ask for a scan. Thank you for your comments and hope you get some relief soon.
Sorry to hear that you are in the same situation. I had an X-Ray last week but that came back normal l wondered if I should ask for a scan. Do you take anything at night to help you sleep? I have orthotics but unfortunately they haven't made any difference. Hope you soon get sorted and take care.

Hi magaret.... I used to have a Labrador with bad hips and acupuncture really helped her with the pain. I had to take her once a month and continued with it until she died aged 16. Have not had any personal experience but I guess the principle is the same on humans
Margaret, at the very least, ask for an ultrasound. It will show the neuromas and also if you have plantar fasciitis. All of this is kind of related, I think!
I would definitely give a try to acupuncture and as well shiatsu but all of this is very personal some people respond very well to acupuncture, while some others don't
Is it possible that you have plantar tear? My symptoms point to that direction
Take care
Hello Margaret. I had plantar fasciitis for about two years - after trying various unsuccessful painkillers and steroid injections into my heels I asked to be referred to Stanmore Orthopaedic Hospital. They suggested I have a course (three consecutive, once a week treatments) of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy. It's not very pleasant and I was told that the worse the fasciitis is the more the treatment hurts, but each treatment only lasts for a few minutes. Feeling a bit desperate I thought I would give it a go and I'm so glad I did. Results are not immediate - it took about 2 months to feel the full benefit. That was about 2 years ago and I'm still pain free. I don't know if the treatment (ESWT) would be suitable for you as you obviously have other significant problems but if it's not been suggested to you by your doctor it might be worth asking about. Good luck.
