Been on low dose t3 for 4-5 months now without complaint for euthyroid Hashimoto's which runs in the family. In the last weeks, I have been feeling very very tired and weak. It comes over me a few times a day. I have to sit down or go to sleep. It's like someone took out my battery pack.

Halinka,

Have a thyroid function test. You might be over or under medicated, either can cause fatigue.

Thanks. I am also a bit tight chested and breathless, not in a 999 kind of way of course. Anyway will share with the doc.

The trouble is, if you take thyroid hormones your thyroid produces less thyroid hormone. It doesn't continue to pump out a fixed amount of thyroxine. You can't really "support" your thyroid by taking extra T3 - the feedback mechanism doesn't work like that. Your pituitary gland senses the amount of thyroid hormone in the blood and produces a corresponding amount of TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) as a result. Plenty of thyroid hormone = low TSH. Not enough thyroid hormone = raised TSH, which kicks the thyroid into producing more thyroxine.

So if your blood levels are artificially raised by taking synthetic thyroid hormone, the thyroid doesn't get the kick to make more. Once on thyroid hormones you need to work towards taking a replacement dose, which usually means your own thyroid stops needing to make any hormone at all.

I agree with Clutter - a test will tell you more.

Did you know our Adrenal glands are our bodies batteries Halinka ? Adrenal Fatigue can go hand in hand with Hashimotos as they just run flat from being over worked by the inflammation and stress on our bodies.

Look into your diet, that will help immensely 👍🏼

Also the obvious one, are you TSH, T3 & T4 levels optimal?

Yes, I need to learn more about adrenals. No one in the NHS gives a monkeys about them it seems. Hmmm.
