Has anyone had any luck getting rid of this horrible mucin, if yes how long. Did it take and what did you do??

If you mean mucuous in the nose, throat, sinus area, I got rid of mine by putting very small amount of menthol crystals into hot water & doing the head over the bowl with towel over head. Had to do it 3 to 4 times a day for about 5 days.

She's talking about accumulation of mucin under the skin as unpinchable fat-like substance. There is a post on myxedema three years ago by ravenhex which discusses this in detail, and there are some videos on you tube showing thin! hypos who can't pinch skin on their upper arms because of it.

Mucin is also in mucous, so yours was an understandable confusion.

Interesting question. I hope the answer isn't forever.

Ooops, apologies x

Not at all, I'm going to try menthol for the mucous, it's a great tip.

From what I have read it is not very easy to get rid of, it's not the same process as losing normal fat. Haven't ever heard of any success yet apart from the weightloss with T3 that people speak of. Maybe it's just a slow process when optimally medicated??

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply to Pastille

The weight-loss is caused by getting rid of the water. But the mucin still seems to be there, under the skin, waiting to soak up the water again if your dose goes down - or if something else happens to make you retain water, like taking HC.

Irony of irony.

We see questions alternating between how to get rid of mucin and getting facial fillers as a "beauty" treatment. Although mucin isn't only one substance, a significant component is precisely the hyaluronic acid used to make (some of?) the injectable fillers.

It can take a very long time for mucin to disappear, unfortunately.

It's a question of being in the right place at the right time. Whilst you might want it to fill up the wrinkles on your face, you do not want it round your ankles!!!

After fifteen months on Thyroid S, I can now pinch my upper arm. It's a miracle!

I've been on thyroid s for about 9 months and my arms look much better but my legs look like tree trunks

Joanneconnor profile image
Joanneconnor in reply to Ansteynomad

Did the mucin ache and give sharp pains sometimes on thyroid s, mine does on my legs I'm wondering if this is maybe some of it going, hopefully, some gone off m arms but I have more to go off my legs

I exercise with dumb bells every day and have toned arms but cannot get rid of the layer of mucin over the top of my muscles.

I'd love to know how to get rid of it!

This isn't really a reply but a further question ... sorry to interrupt. I read recently that mucin causes the ectopic heartbeats a lost of us sufferers experience ... Any thoghts?

There are some pictures here which clearly show the effects of excessive mucin:

That's quite an article isn't it! It pretty much says it all. That reduction in an enlarged heart knocks your socks off. Every doctor should read that, I've printed it out and I'll send it to mine. Managing thyroid problems seems to repeat the classic case of information getting lost and covered by the mists and dust of time. It's like the student so wrapped up in nano technology that he forgets Ohm's law. Of course in time he rediscovers it - but it took him a couple of years of experimentation. Having done very little chemistry I discovered the Triple Point that way. I was trying to smelt Barium in a vacuum, took a couple of weeks thinking I was going crazy before I ran into a chemist in the coffee room. (for those who are interested: you cannot always go from a solid to a liquid by raising the temperature, you have to consider pressure too. Barium is such a material, at low pressure it will go straight from it's solid form to it's gaseous form - and down the vacuum pump's pipes! I put the lumps of barium in my steal container, left it at it's melting point overnight, came in the next morning, and it was GONE!)

Having been on thyroid s over a year, I think I have lowered my cortisol levels now as thyroid s is starting to work, my skin feels weird and almost shivery and mucin seems to be going in this area, so that's good news!!

What is Thyroid S, and is it available without prescription?

Joanneconnor profile image
Joanneconnor in reply to Britomartis29

I sourced it of the Internet think it was from china

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to Britomartis29

Thyroid S is a desiccated thyroid product which claims similar (but not identical) properties to the well-known Nature-Throid, Armour, Erfa, etc.

It is one of three such products manufactured in Thailand.

It is not, so far as I am aware, available with a prescription. :-)

Joanneconnor profile image
Joanneconnor

Yes it's available without prescription, I take 2 tablets 60mg each and 1 50mg of Levo a day as my t3 levels were a little high on thyroid s alone, but I feel great on them

I have been researching this like crazy because I just heard of it. I had it around my ankles and had no idea! I used activated charcoal daily and it worked not all out of the woods with it and I just heard NAC, N-ACETYL CYSTEINE gets rid of it.

Joanneconnor profile image
Joanneconnor in reply to Cloverbelle

Not heard of tHe charcoal, I have some of the NAC, didn't notice much different but been on aip diet now for 12 weeks and a lot of the inflammation and hardness has gone although I still have the weird shaped legs just a bit thinner, maybe it will work better now I'm dealing with the inflammation now, worth a try I quess

Any photos of your legs clover belle?

Hi I've been reading your posts and I'm wondering what the aip diet is, I hope your journey on getting rid of mucin is still going well.

AIP Diet is the Autoimmune Protocol Diet. I've never investigated it myself, but at least you can google it now you know the name of it. :)

pamela22 profile image
pamela22 in reply to humanbean

Many thanks humanbean I will indeed Google it, I remember my mum went on a very strict diet eliminating everything from her diet apart from pork and water for about a month then started introducing things like salt and pepper, then gradually she added fruits and vegetables as I remember... she found it very difficult but managed it slowly introducing different foods over about a year ... the result was that she did not have food allergies as the doctors suspected ... she had MS 😏

Joanneconnor in reply to pamela22

Auto immune paleo I had to take everything out of my diet apart from meat and veg (organic ) for 3 weeks then every few days introduce something new and see if there was a reaction, as in a day to day basis you wouldn’t notice, it helped me a lot

Clover belle I've added my photo, they are a little smaller now still weird shape though🙁

Cloverbelle profile image
Cloverbelle in reply to Joanneconnor

I do have pix but don't know if I want the world to see mine! That has always been one area I've just been so frustrated with, has caused me distress! But what is the weird shape you are speaking of?

Joanneconnor profile image
Joanneconnor

They puff out towards the bottom and then nothing skinny ankles but I do sprinting and you can't even see the muscle. it like there's a big fat pad attached to the back and side of calf
