Define "armour" - do you mean medieval metal suits ? Or something else ?

danmdan,

I don't see how that helps the original poster, or anyone else.

Crlnfly ,

Armour is one make/brand of desiccated thyroid. It is the quality it is.

There are other makes of desiccated thyroid including WP Thyroid, Nature-Throid, Erfa Thyroid, NP Thyroid and the Thai products. Many people avoid Armour because it is much more expensive than any other make.

What is it that you actually want to buy?

I am currently taking 3 grains of armour prescribed by my gp, but unfortunately it is working out very expensive for me, and I feel I may have to up to 4 grains soon. So I was really just looking to save money somehow. When I said good quality I just meant reliable really as I would not have any experience buying medication online so obviously would be a bit worried as I don't want to buy anything that is going to make me sicker. I suppose I am just nervous it being new to me, and you do read some horror stories! I said armour as it's the only ndt that I am aquainted with but I would be open to others if they were cheaper and worked as well so any advice is appreciated xx

Danmdan, Why would anyone ask where to buy medieval metal suits on a thyroid forum?

Armour is a brand of dessicated thyroid medication.

Ah, I had a feeling it was perhaps something like that - which is why I did actually ask the question - "or something else ?"

However, and now knowing the answer - I wonder if it is wise for what seems like quite a few people doing complex chemical experiments on themselves ? Are we effectively saying that the medical profession, G.P.s and Hospital Clinics are not doing their job properly ?

Danmdan, It's acknowledged that up to 15% of patients don't respond to Levothyroxine. If their doctors won't prescribe Liothyrnine (T3) or NDT why shouldn't patients source it without prescription to recover their health? They're not untried hippy dippy medications. Liothyronine is listed in the British National Formulary and is prescribed, but rarely due to BTA stating "Levothyroxine is the preferred therapy". Although Armour and other NDT aren't licensed for UK use they can be prescribed on a named patient basis but rarely are. NDTs are listed in the US and Canadian National Formularies.

NDT was the only medication for hypothyroidism from 1890 to the 1950s when Liothyronine was developed, and Levothyroxine was developed in 1970s.

Are you for real Danmdan???? The reason we have this forum is because doctors, gp's etc are NOT doing their jobs, nor do they care personally about how we feel (the majority of them anyway!!) , so therefore have to take our own health into our own hands unfortunately. And if it wasn't for this forum I would probably be dead or at least have ZERO quality of life!!. Unless you have a thyroid problem, you have NO idea what our lives are like

Yes I am real, and very new to this forum and the whole business of thyroid chemistry.

My G.P. brands me a "borderline" case, with no intervention at present - so I must leave it at that; and have to assume he is correct - since I have no results to give to you guys to chew over there is little else I can do.

I read the forum with great interest and am amazed at the details you guys discuss - surely I am not entirely wrong in counselling caution when performing chemical experiments on one's own body ?

Anyway, thanks for listening - I will not trouble you again on this subject.

I think the reason we intervene and become our own doctors as such is because we have suffered for years with no quality of life and when you join forums like these u begin to see that there are other options available and that people really do manage this illness.

We educate ourselves about our own bodies and take it from there. It is essential to keep on top of blood tests so that we can know how we are doing. And yes maybe we are performing chemical experiments on our bodies as you say, but in my opinion and experience it is a better way to live than the alternative!

I spose it comes down to each individual not wanting to just exist as such anymore but to try and help ourselves get our own quality of life back as most gp's or endo's don't seem to really care unfortunately 😢😢
