ARMOUR

Here I go again on my never ending quest to find a GP/ENDO who is not afraid to prescribe ARMOUR. Please share your experiences with me because I am desperate now, I have been ringing round hospital secretaries to no avail, they all say the same line - NO.

I live in South Yorkshire. PM me if you would rather....... Many thanks x

It's because of the guidelines written by the BTA who make false statements about dessicated thyroid gland products. Private doctors usually prescribe but of course it's expensive. A few NHS doctors but finding one is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Someone who is fortunate to have been prescribe will private message you. Even if you have to travel it may be worthwhile.

Considering NDT has been in use for over 100 years it is still 'unlicensed' in the UK but I don't think it's ever been recalled. I know for sure Naturethroid hasn't and in 75 years never has had inconsistency in both T4 and T3.

Well, tbh, if you can afford to, then purchase Armour privately. Knocking your head against a brick wall otherwise. I take 3 1/2 grains naturethroid pd. Worked out it costs me approx £1 pd. :)

Ive sent you a pm, though it may not be much use. I'm with the others of buying my own, its far less stressful in the long run :)

Agreed, I couldn't even get diagnosis from gp after years of Ill health and being treated separately for classic hypoT symptoms.Even after seeing Dr Skinner(I had already begun buying my own at this point) and my gp receiving his letter asking her to prescribe armour thyroid for me, discussing my less than ideal bloods and obvious signs and symptoms, she refused and even said he must be prescribing armour for another condition as I didn't have hypothyroidism . Worse than useless. So I have taken the job of keeping myself 'well' firmly in my own hands, and this is difficult at times, but , it stops the people who are happy to leave you suffering and unwell having the power to keep you in such a compromised state. Good luck reikimaster, and as above, if you can, buy your own. Also if you have the diagnosis, is it worth taking the di02 genetic test, if you prove to have this gene it could aid with gaining a medicine that actually contains t3, maybe someone else can advise on this score :)

I know one in London. Would you be willing to come down for 1 appt? He would probably do future prescriptions by phone.Otherwise do what many do and self medicate - it works out much cheaper

Hi, I'm still unable to get a diagnosis n my GP won't prescribe anything.my symptoms are bit confusing as they are same as hypo but also overlap with b12 def. either way I would be very willing to travel to London to see someone who would be willing to work on symptoms n not just blood tests(mine are within range, just) I'd be happy to self medicate once advised what to take. Getting to point of doing it anyway but feel happier having a dr on board. Could you let me know who/where this person is? Thanks

I take it you want a doctor to prescribe Armour/NDT because you want to remain under a doctor's care for your thyroid condition? Very sensible, of course. Why not ask yours if you can come to a compromise: doc does the monitoring, you do the buying? Or have you tried that?

NDT was the drug of choice for hypothyroidism prescribed by doctors in the UK until the early 1960's when the pharmaceutical companies came up with the synthetic Levothyroxine cheaper to produce but not so good for patients. NDT has never been recalled for instability and the only reason it is not a licensed drug anymore, is the aggressive marketing by the pharmaceutical companies & of course it is cheaper than NDT .. profit before patient?

in reply tohilary77

Well said!

It a pity that we cannot put this forward to parliament to SHAME GPs and Endo's our bad our health service actually is. To fail to prescribe a natural product in favour of a synthetic concoction is causing harm. I'm a vegetarian BUT I prefer to use Armour to Lev-poision. Yes I was on Armour for a short period of time before I had it stopped. I choose not to return to the chap that prescribed it. So my quest continues on.......and on...... :-(

Hi all, my first batch of armour arrived into uk yesterday and I have started on 1/2 grain, I was on 100 mg before this, feeling very good and hopeful. Have given up with docs so decided to do it myself. I had my thyroid removed in 96 and have felt worse each year with large weight gain but very excited now. All in 180 tabs of one grain cost about £80-90 (including £22 tax on door). Worth it if I feel better x
