Hi

Does anyone have an idea how to get rid of the puffiness that has appeared under my eyes, only appeared after thyroid problems diagnosed. Please note I had RAI ten years ago.

Thank you

Hi gwendoline. I too have puffiness around my eyes especially top eyelids which sag down.

so any suggestions would be great for us.

Have you both been checked for Thyroid Eye Disease ?

Hi Bantam

They say I haven't when looking for bulging eyes. It's just the top eyelids & under eye puffy and now sagging. I have this for quite some time now since thyroid problems reared it's ugly head.

3 weeks ago had a total thyroidectomy.

Hi bantam12

I was under a specialist for my eyes 6/7 years ago due to thyroid problems, they operated on both of my eye lids as they had dropped, I've had the puffiness under my eyes for ten years since the onset of my thyroid.

Thank you

Hi Snow31

Mine is just under my eyes. Both my eyes were operated on 6/7 years ago as they drooped with the thyroid problems.

😳

What did they do? Has the same happened again since the operation?

Hi Snow31

Apologies for delay, the surgeon took a sliver of skin from both my upper eyelids then stitched them, they do this whilst you are awake. It made a great difference, but I have had the puffiness under my eyes for ten years, but apparently I haven't been on enough medication, for my thyroid but as soon as I get my meds right the puffiness will disappear, this was advised to me on this forum recently.

Hope this helps

Hi

Thanks for replying. I have also heard recently that they might shrink/disappear once meds sorted too. So will hope they do go down very soon...hopefully with the weight that I put on lol

It's a symptom of low thyroid. It should go when you're optimally replaced. :)

I was just about to say the same as greygoose. ;-)

All my swelling went on correct treatment - not that I got any treatment from doctors! I self medicate with NDT

Naturethroid, but I don't think one is any better than the other really (except Armour which seems to have gone downhill & increased massively in price)

I have had this problem for years and it got especially bad a couple of years ago. Thought this was something I was going to have to live with or have surgery to fix. That was until I found out I needed T3 added to my Synthroid medication. I have seen the upper eyelid puffiness go away and the bottom area is better but not totally gone yet.

they say it is a hypo symptom, but no matter what my eyes look bad. Mine is due to the inflammation due to hashimotos and no sleep. I am working on getting rid of hashimotos.
