I would really appreciate input from members having tried Berberine (Glycosolve etc) for borderline high blood sugar and insulin levels.
I just read a very inspiring article by MD Julian Whitaker who recommends Berberine among other supplements for diabetics. Then, I stumbled upon an article by someone called Jenny Ruhl who claims Berberine can be toxic, and can destroy your liver among other things...
It's very confusing. I was told some months ago my blood sugar and insulin levels were borderline high, and was prescribed Metformin (850 mg x 2). However, I don't like the risks associated with it...maybe ketoacidosis is a very rare side effect, but I still don't like the odds...and there have been so many glowing reviews of Berberine online, even on the STTM, so I thought it might be worth giving it a try...which is why I'd appreciate any input from those having tried it, or from anyone having tried any supplement that lowers high blood sugar and insulin levels.
I used Berberine (alternated weekly with Tanabit) for gut parasites.
It provides broad-spectrum immune support, encourages healthy respiratory mucus membranes, maintains healthy immune response, and maintain the body’s normal intestinal flora. ( I have had MAJOR gut issues).
Now I read it moderates high blood sugar, abnormal lipid profiles, blood pressure, cholesterol, weight loss, even dementia and now has status as a good anti- oxidant.

Just out of interest what was your borderline/ high reading. My reading was 58 ( two weeks ago) and GP and I agreed to try diet before meds. Have also been given info. on Desmond a 6 hour tuition programme.
My intention is to cut carbs and sugar in shop foods : so avoid fruit yoghurt (fig had 18%) , check packaged curry and pizza etc. No processed food.
My results (lab's reference ranges within brackets) from a Belgian lab:
fasting blood glucose 101 (70-105)
insulin 23.1 (5-25)
Berberine has been found in several studies to lower blood sugar levels as effectively as prescription drug Metformin. It's sold as a supplement, and many seem very happy with it.
Different tests so unable to compare .Mine was HbA1c or glycated haemoglobin. The range was expressed as 20-42 (48) .i was 40 a year ago and wish I had been warned instead of being told "good news ,you are not diabetic" I think 42-48 must be the borderline although it was not made clear to me.
Will look up berberine.Wikipedia gives interesting info. And to associated herbs such as golden seal.
I am trying to find out if Berberine can be taken with NDT. I have read that Berberine should not be taken with other medications. Many thanks in advance.
