hi just wondered if any members have tried berberine and if they have found it helpful?Just reading an article on it! Sounds interesting. Supposed to help with gut issues and sort out your Microderm, think we could all do with a bit of that!
Berberine : hi just wondered if any members have... - Thyroid UK
Berberine
Hello, I take Berberine, have done for several years. I take it to reduce blood sugar peaks. I know it works well for that as I stopped when eating very low carb diet as I believed that would prevent high sugar peaks but after 5 months my Hb1ac blood test rose by 5 points to just under the diabetic range. I was so shocked! I’d been eating very carefully, less than 20 grams of carb a day. So I went straight back to Berberine.
I like the Time Health one. I only recently learnt that it has other benefits too.
just a word of caution: I tried it for the first time yesterday and, about thirty minutes after taking it, vomited quite violently. The nausea came on extremely quickly and disappeared almost as fast, so I’m confident it was a response to the berberine rather than illness, especially as Google tells me it *can* be a side effect,
I don’t want to put you off trying it, but perhaps try it first on a day where you don’t have to leave the house for a while afterwards, just in case.
I think that it varies hugely from one brand to another. I have had the runs after a brand I tried recently as my usual was out of stock. That’s why I recommend Time Health, no or very low excipients & a source of plant that I’ve grown to trust. Seaside Susie found the brand a couple of years ago & I’ve used them since.
I've been taking it for a couple of months, mainly because some GP raised a query a while ago re the balance of cholesterol/tris . I take 1000mg on empty stomach with water 1st thing. I haven't had any blood tests, so who knows whether it's doing anything?
But the research on it seems good. Its mechanism in body is very different to statins, and it seems to have several potential benefits over the long term. When I eventually have another full blood test, I'll know more.
Could I ask if you take it first thing do you take it with thyroid meds? I’m on both t3 & 4
I believe berberine has helped me. If you have any if these, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, fatty liver, high/low cholesterols, high blood pressure or pcos and unable to lose weight or reverse any, then it's worth trying.Sorry, my head is mashed at minute so unable to write proper reply as to why I feel I've benefited from taking.
