just curious
What supplements and vitamins can I take to sup... - Thyroid UK
What supplements and vitamins can I take to support the adrenals/thyroid and other organs?
HypoHippo, you need ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate serum tests to determine whether you need to supplement, and if so, how much to supplement. A serum cortisol test will determine whether you have too little or too much cortisol. A 24hr hour private saliva test will determine cortisol levels throughout the day.
Without testing the only supplements I recommend are vitamin C, magnesium and zinc.

Hello HypoHippo,
Thyroid UK recommended supplements
thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...
Dr Wilsons Adrenal fatigue Supplement Program
adrenalfatigue.org/program-...
I would also recommend CoEnzymeQ10.
Dr James Wilson advocates adaptogenic herbs that help the body to normalise after times of stress.
Liquorice Root (not to be used with high blood pressure)
Siberian Ginseng Root
Ashwagandha Root
Ginkgo Biloba
Dr Peatfield suggests Nutri Advanced glandulars Nutri Thyroid and Nutri Adrenal Extra (NAX). Some prefer Adrenal Cortex Extracts which don’t contain the adrenaline found in glandular
Some supplement cortisol (or synthetic cortisone, prednisone, and others forms of adrenal rebuilding steroid hormones.)
Dr P recommends Vit C taken with with bioflavonoids which helps to metabolise.
For gut issues - Betaine HCI (with pepsin) for low stomach acid, beets or ox bile for biliary support, digestive enzymes to help nutrient and hormone absorption, probiotics to replenish gut flora.

oh fantastic thank you so much
whats the max dose for co enzyme q10?
HypoHippo
The max dose is huge and has been used in studies on people with Hunters Disease & Parkinsons (up to 3600mg) but a more general suggested dose is 100mg a day and most brands come in this measure.
It comes in two forms: ubiquinol (active antioxidant) and ubiquinone
( oxidized form that body converts.) There are many studies saying which is best but I think either work. Some say older people should only take ubiquinol as it will be easier utilised.
However, I am on a super high end product as chelating heavy metals and it doesn't even say which it contains so I don't hold much credence to these claims but either way it is thought to be better absorbed when paired as a combined pill with vitamin E (that also supports against oxidative stress).
Since hypothyroidism is associated with enhanced oxidative stress it is beneficial to supplement CoQ10. Adrenal hormones are also involved with CoQ10 meaning dysfunctional adrenal health will compromise CoQ10 levels (as will taking statins).
