Are you supplementing B12 ?

B12 needs to be around a 1000 to prevent cognitive decline and a host of other symptoms.

sorry I'm late to reply Marz but I waited till I had seen Endo.

Thyroid Stimulating hormone Serum =<0.03 mu/L 0.35 - 4.94

FREE T4 Serum =<5.3 pmol/L 9.0 - 19.0

FREE T3 Serum = 8.9 pmol/L 2.6 - 5.7

B12 - SERUM = 430 ng/L 150.0 - 883.0

FOLATE -SERUM = 8.9 ug/L 3.1 - 20.5

These were my B/test results that the Endo looked at and the only thing that he was worried about was my T3 that was high to he has cut my T 3 down

from 50mcg daily to 40mcg one day then 50mcg the next! now I told him that we have tried this in 2015 and all my throat problems came back i.e

(tongue feels to big, sore throat, very tired etc)He said that B12 is nothing to do with them go back to the GP!!

Well Marz when I supplement my B12 I don't know how far I can go? when I have it up to 900 then go back for next appointment it is back down to 400 range!! is this the thyroid problem?

It's T3 that worries them!!

Thank you for your time Marz.

Low B12 is mostly an absorption problem. Are you taking any acid suppressing medicines ? You also need to take a good B complex with the B12 to keep all the B's in balance. Folate works with B12 in the body to enable to remain longer in the system. Do you have any gut issues ?

When did you take the T3 prior to your blood test ? Did you leave 24 hours before testing ? If not then you would have a spike in the T3 levels in your blood.

You can be susceptible to neurological damage if your B12 is below 500 and really needs to be around 1000 to prevent cognitive decline.

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

You cannot overdose on B12 as it is water soluble. Your Folate is good.

So what are your symptoms that prompted you to post your results ?

Maybe your FT3 level will settle now on a dose that is alternating days....

Hi Marz thank you for your reply, the problem is when the Endo cuts T3 my thyroid problems come back (sore throat ,very tired,

my tongue feels to big for my mouth etc!!!) but I'm going to take

B12 1000 as you say I can't overdose which is what I was afraid of. Thanks for the info.

Did you not have any thyroid tests done?

Hi Greygoose

Sorry that I have not replied before as I waited until I had been to the Endo

My B/test were Thyroid Function Test <0.03 mu/L 0.35 - 4.94

Free T4-serum <5.3 pmol/L 9.0 - 19.0

FREE T3 - serum 8.9 pmol/L 2.6 - 5.7

B12 - Serum 430 ng/L 150.0 - 883.0

FOLATE - Serum 8.9 ug/L 3.1 -- 20.5

The Endo has decided to cut my T3 from 50 mcg daily to 50mcg one day and

40mcg the next day! As I said to him that we tried that in 2015 and then all

my old problems came back i.e.(sore throat, tongue feels to big for my mouth puffy face, and feeling very tired) But this was another new Endo with different views! when I asked about B12 he said that is nothing to do with Thyroid problems ask your GP.

He does not like T3 out of range, but the problem is greygoose 50 mcg seems to suit me but will it damage my heart and would I know? I keep

checking B/P all seems well.

Thank you for your time greygoose.

Well, it dépends. Remember that the test only shows you what's in the blood, not what's getting into the cells. You may very well need it that high to be well because you have some sort of hormone resistance.

50 mcg is not a massively high dose - some people take a lot higher. I take 75. And you're not massively over-range. And if you feel well, can't you try and make a bargin with him? That you promise to get your heart checked regularly if he leaves you on your 50 dose.

But, are you sure it's the over-range T3 he objects to? Or is it the suppressed TSH? Most doctors hate to see that! And that's usually when they start going on about heart attacks and osteoporosis. Which is, of course, rubbish.

And, he's utterly wrong about the B12! It has everything to do with the thyroid. Being hypo means you have low stomach acid, which means you can't absorb nutrients very well. However, you need optimal B12 to be able to absorb and use the thyroid hormone you're taking.

Optimal is 1000. However, you Don't need a doctor for that. Just take 1000 sublingual methylcobalamin every day, plus a B complex, and that will raise your B12 and folate nicely. It's often better to help ourselves than to wait for others to do it. :)

Thank you greygoose I will do as you suggest and take both supplements for the 6 weeks as that's the time he wants another B/test.

Hi greygoose,

hope you don't mind but I have just picked up blood test that Endo had done

before he cut my T3 from 50mcg daily to 50/ 40 mcgs every other day!!

thyroid Peroxide AB -(CF) 45.4 iu/ml 00.00 - 35.00iu/ml

OESTRADIOL 17B (SERUM) 86 pmol/L 98.00 - 571.00pmol/L

! SERUM free T4 level <0.3 pmol/L 12.00 - 22.22pmol/L

! SERUM free T3 level 8.5 pmol/L 3.10 -- 6.80 pmol/L

! SERUM TSH level 0.02 mu/L 0.30 -- 4.20mu/L

I am also on HRT everel 25 mg patch twice a week.Until recently I have had

terrible Hot flushes for 5 yrs which the Endo had no answers for!! But my GP and myself thought it would be a good idea to try daily low dose of HRT

which I'm pleased to say worked for the past 3 months.

I wonder if you have any ideas from the B/test I would be grateful for your input greygoose.

Well, the FT3 is still above range, but the most important question is : how do you feel? When taking T3, the thyroid blood tests are much use, really, because they were designed for people taking T4 only. So, we really have to be guided by how we feel.

If you feel bad again, and your endo won't restore your original dose, you might have to start thinking about buying your own...

Well greygoose as I say on 50 mcg I feel OK but as soon as the Endo cuts dose down to 40 mcgs even if it is every other the day

I get sore throat metallic taste in my mouth, tongue feels swollen

and I get tired more!!

Now the problem I'm worried about is, the Endo just doesn't like

me being out of range, and doesn't say why!

Am I going to damage my heart if I stay out of range, I have told

him that I take my B/P weekly etc which is reasonable, so what is the problem do you think? This is the second time in 18 months that they have changed the dose. (different Endo's)

Thank you for your time greygoose.

He doesn't know why. He's just a machine. Computer says over-range, so he says cut dose.

If you Don't have any hyper symptoms at that level, and you keep a close eye on your heart, I really Don't think you are doing any damage. Some people just need it high, but endos Don't get it.

Thank you greygoose I will fight my corner and see if I can get him to understand.

Remind him - I presume he knows this - that the test only tells you what's in the blood, not what's getting into the cells. And if it's not getting into the cells, then you're going to have hypo symptoms. It's like having a fridge full of food, but if you Don't eat it, you're still going to be hungry! lol Good luck!
