Magnesium testing tomorrow...

Hi Folks,

I asked my GP to prescribe magnesium, which he agreed to do, if I was deficient.

I'm booked in for a blood test tomorrow, & wondered how long it takes for the effect of the magnesium I took yesterday to get out of my system. I'm not sure whether to cancel the test, & wait a week, so the results aren't skewed.

Thanks in advance for any advice & information,

Mel

Magnesium tests are not much help, because the body keeps up the level in the blood, to the detriment of the cells, so the results always come back in range.

Do you need him to prescribe it? He will probably just prescribe the cheapest one, magnesium oxide, which isn't much good. You'll probably be better off buying your own.

Thanks, Greygoose.

I asked my GP for a prescription, which he said would be ok, as long as I was deficient. I deferred the test till Monday, just in case, though I'm prepared to carry on buying my own.

Do you know how much is absorbed through the skin, from epsom salt baths? Also, is this a good source to take orally, if it's food grade? I go through about 5kg a week, in my baths, & wondered how effective this is?

my experience with magnesium is I take magnesium gly ....forget the last part of spelling...my experience is too much and you get diarrhea so you back off on dosage until you don't but if constipate it helps alot , take it before bed helps with sleep, and if you really want to be safe...you can get magnesium oil online and rub on your body...if it stings, I was told that means you are deficient..but keep away from face.....I use on legs.....also stops muscle pain.....

Thanks JacrJacr!

I've been taking magnesium for years, as epsom salt baths, orally, & have tried the sprays. It's my GP that suggested testing, as I asked him to prescribe it, rather than keep buying supplements myself.

As I'd put about 750g in my bath yesterday morning, then consumed a couple of huge dates, & eaten other Mg rich foods, I was concerned it would make today's test results appear as though I don't need it.

I change my blood test day to Monday, so will avoid taking any more till after that.
