Sorry to be boring folks

Just been looking at an on line pharmacy for the NDT I want to order.

On reading the How To instructions they ask you to check with the post office about importing it .

Anyone tell me how to go about this ?

Thanks as always

They're just covering their backs. No need to check if you are in the uk as we are allowed to import medication for our own use. We get charged vat on anything over £15 and there is a handling charge too of £8 or do..... So either buy very small amounts, or buy 3 months worth at a time. ( the legal limit),

There is no legal limit.

All that is required, so far as I can tell, is that if you were ever challenged, you could sensibly argue that it really is for your own personal use. Suspicion that you are importing to supply others (for money or not) would likely result in an unpleasant investigation, if noticed by official bodies.

I think the most you could ever argue for is what you could consume yourself before the expiry date of the product. More than that is surely both folly and self-damning?

Also, given that we have people on everything from one to six grains of desiccated thyroid, assessing a three month supply can only be done in relation to an individual.

Makes sense to just be able to argue it out up to the sell by date. I dint remember where i geard it was three months, but i thought this had always been the case.... I windered how i got away with a years worth at a time....

Thanks rod.

Hi PP,

I ordered NDT costing £51, & paid £13.85 for import duty & handling.

It took an extra few days to arrive, once I'd paid the charge online.

I think the more you order, the higher the duty might be, but you'll find that information out on the customs website.

I've a vague recollection that there's no duty under £35, but it worked out cheaper for me to to get 6 months worth, rather than 2, due to the postage costs.

Duty and VAT are separate.

If the value of the order is over £15, we are charged VAT at the standard rate of 20%. This is calculated on the value of the order including postage.

If the value of the order is under £15 we do not get charged VAT.

Gifts up to £36 are not charged VAT. However, allowing someone to mis-declare a purchased item as a gift is an offence.

Duty is waived if it comes to less than £9. There is no duty if the value is under £135. Above £135 and up to £630 the rate is 2.5%.

If there is no VAT or duty to collect, there is no customs clearance charge from Royal Mail/Parcel Force.

Customs clearance charges from other carriers vary and can be very much more expensive.
