T3 only

Hi, I've got agreement today from my Consultant to go T3 only as been feeling better since reducing my T4 medication and increasing T3. My Consultant has suggested that I need to be on 10 mg in the morning and 20 mg in the afternoon so 30 mg in total - Is that a normal amount for a daily dose? What do other people take? Thanks

Bradleyeb, there's no 'normal' amount of T4, T4+T3 or T3 only. People need what they need. 30mcg T3 is equivalent to 90mcg T4. What was your T4+T3 dose?

My t3 dose was 10 mcg in the morning with 75 mcg of levothyroxine and then a further 20 mcg in the afternoon

Bradleyeb, 75mcg Levothyroxine + 30mcg T3 is equivalent to 55mcg T3. If you are dropping 75mcg Levothyroxine your T3 dose should be increased by 25mcg to 55mcg.

Hi Bradleyeb, would it be possible to pm me and let me know the name of the consultant you saw, l have had two appointments with a consultant and he refused to consider t3 or natural thyroxine, I have had an underactive thyroid for 36yrs and managed on 100mg although not feeling well but my doctor dropped me down to 75mg and I have felt shocking, I would be very grateful to find a doctor who would do more than a tsh blood test, I live in sheffield and my user name is emilyanne, I would be so grateful for any help. Thank you.

RFU, I'm not doubting that the patient's endo said that, but it doesn't mean all CCGs will do so.

Makes a nonsense of those who deny there are postcode lotteries re drug availability on the NHS though :(

Used to be on 100 T4. Started on 20mcg T3. Then 30, now 40mcg over a year. Take it in one dose middle of the night.
