Quick recap; was hypo for 24 years on 112mcg synthroid now am hyper and completely off synthroid for 3 months. Still cant sleep, losing my hair, and am down to 109 lbs used to be 147lbs, have tremors yet my labs say "within range". Hear so many great things bout Armour. Btw the depression is awful too. Can Armour or an equivalent be purchased here in America or is a script needed? If so does anyone know of a doc in Virginia that is pro Armour? Thanks for any info. I am desperate.

Why have you been off Synthroid for 3 months. I assume, as you said, you became hyper. Do you have a copy of those blood tests with the ranges which inferred you had become hyper. Did the doctor check thyroid antibodies too.

Some of us need a very low or suppressed TSH to feel well but if your doctor told you that you were now hyperthyroid and didn't need medication he may well be wrong.

The worst phrase, in regard to being hypothyroid, is the statement 'within range' is meaningless. We have to have a TSH which isn't in 'normal' range - we feel best with a TSH of around 1 or below.

You say you are depressed and it might likely be due to the fact that you've had no thyroid hormone replacement and your body isn't functioning due to very little active T3 in your body. T4 is a pro-hormone (synthroid or levothyroxine) and is required to convert to sufficient T3 the Active hormone required in all our receptor cells for us to function normally. The brain containing most.

Most doctors only take notice of the TSH alone. They don't consider the clinical symptoms at all it would appear.

Maybe you should now get an up-to-date blood test, i.e. TSH, T4, T3, Free T4 and Free T3. Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

you need prescription to get armour or ndt in USA. I had to go to a bio identical hormone dr to get my first ndt meds like armour hence they are more open to ndt than other drs so you may want to look into that and many hormones interplay with the thyroid as we age....that's a drastic weight loss ...post labs if you can...what some drs call normal is weird...or the opposite
