TSH: My Endo has said only reading that counts is... - Thyroid UK
TSH
What is the Endo talking about ! Now wonder the world is full of poorly people who cannot work - lose their families - become overweight - depressed - gut issues - all over body pain - heart problems - costing the NHS a fortune. So now we have the answer - it is the very unprofessional medical people at the top of the tree who are causing the drain on the NHS - just because they do not know their job - or have any understanding of the work they are doing.
Sorry I am incandescent with rage ! Probably as I am not feeling too good myself today but have decided a Doctor cannot help ! It seems I was right !
Your instincts are right - the TSH is not the only test. As you are T3 only the TSH will be very low or suppressed - also the FT4 will be low. But it would be good for you to know where the FT3 is. How are you feeling ? What dose are you taking ? Maybe have your tests done privately and return here for opinions/ideas
OK we are not medics here on the whole - but it seems we are better informed than your Endo. Sack him
Apologies for the rant !
Thanks Marz. I was in hospital with suspected heart problems and palpitations, Original post should have said T3 and T4 were both low, What a nightmare x
Hope you are feeling better now. Did you see my post about the book containing lots of research about hearts and thyroid hormones ? The book is called - Thyroid and Heart Failure. You can peep inside it on Amazon - I saved up and bought it and it seems that T3 or Liothyronine is the star of the show. It is the first time that Endocrinologists and Cardiologists came together for the purposes of research.
So if your FT3 result is low then maybe an increase is appropriate. As you know I am not a medic - just a Hypo T3 lady !
Have the palpitations settled ?
Will look at the book. Palpitations are improving, but he decreased my T3 and I am so weary x
How could he reduce it without knowing the reading ? Silly man !
Total nightmare!
So how much are you taking ? How much was it reduced ?
I was on 60mcg and reduced to 50mcg x
OK so that roughly translates to around 180 of T4. Did that correspond with your T4 dose before changing to T3 only ?
Linda65, TSH only testing is why some patients remain symptomatic as low FT4 and low FT3 are missed. I think you need a new endo. Email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk for a list of member recommended endos.

I am going to see one on Louise's list! Thank you
I think you need a new drs....sounds like they really don't understand thyroid or the test or medication......and many don't......many endo make money off more diabetic patients was what I was told and have little education in endrocrine thyroid in school beside give t4 and test tsh....which is subpar training and teaching
