New GP, old information

Went to see a GP at new surgery. He agreed to blood tests for thyroid but refused antibodies as 'they are not necessary. It is is necessary to know if you have antibodies'. I ask you! Said my TSH was too low last time <0.05 (0.2-5.5), free T4 too high 25.0 (10.0-24.5), free T3 8.2 (3.9-6.7).

I'm pretty sure either Dr Malcolm Kendrick or Dr Brownstein wrote a blog post on this stuff a few weeks ago. Can't sell statins; let's make something worse! With lots of side effects we can sell other drugs for.

Hi Topaz,

Your GP won't test because you have already been diagnosed with Hashi, antibodies stay with you for life and in his eyes, treatment is the same.

However if I were you and had previous negative results and now felt unwell, I would want to know my antibody levels too. In fact I has mine tested in June and they were really high... Extremely disappointing given the momentous effort I have been taking to reduce them.

You could private test them ( details below). As far as I can see in your previous posts you were only tested for TPOAb. Did you ever have TGAb tested as well?

How is your heavy metal detox going? I am chelating as well on DMSA amongst others and it's horrid but I consider essential.

Your T3 results look high. ..? .. Are you still feeling over medicated .? ..

Hi Flower, thanks for your message. I dont feel medicated at all! I've got up to 4 grains and was over then cut back to 2, got up to 3 grains and was over then cut back to 2 grains - where I am now.

I'm sorry your antibodies are still high but I do agree that I want to know, so will do as suggested and get a private test. I dont think I've ever had TGA's tested.

I see the Naturopath on the 25th and want to ask him how my detox is going on. I felt awful on the chlorella for a while but it doesnt make me feel bad now. The test was too expensive to do again too soon!! I have a feeling that nothing is going to make any difference to anything until I get rid of the heavy metals!

Topaz1, if you took NDT before your thyroid blood test that will account for high FT4 and FT3. If you left 24 hours between last dose and blood draw you are overmedicated.

Thanks Clutter. I did leave 24 hrs between dose and blood test and I think I was taking 3 grains and had over-medicated symptoms. Since then have gone up then down and am now staying 6 weeks on 2 grains. Over-medicated symptoms have gone but all the rest are still with me so am going to raise very, very slowly this time!
