I've been thinking along these lines a lot, lately. Every time I see Keith Richards...

The healthy life?
GG, I heard Keith Richards on Desert Island Discs, he wheezes terribly and still on the coffin nails. I think he was born looking a raddled 70.
He never changes .. amazing really.
That's because he was pickled by various substances 30 or 40 years ago ...
No, he looked quite smooth when he was Young. He had a very unlived-in face when the Stones first started - I know these things, I'm older than you! lol
Lol.
Perhaps he has a liver that can just keep regenerating at the rate of a man with an unlined face ..! ! ......
F
Well, he's got plenty of lines now! But he can get up on the stage and dance around and sing and play the guitar, and live a very active life. Unlike me. But then, I've never been able to play the guitar...
Sorry, but I'm going to get on my soap box...
I've seen that picture before. It isn't a fair comparison. And as someone who was born a duck and never grew up into a swan, I kinda feel sorry for McKeith.
McKeith - not posed or made up, not dressed in her best, lighting was not considered when the photo was taken. Flattering her wasn't even considered.
Lawson - beautifully posed, made up, lighting good, beautiful dress, probably several photos taken and the best one published.
McKeith - Brought up in Dundee on a council estate eating what she describes as a typical Scottish diet of the time - lots of junk food, very little fruit or healthy veg. She was born with scoliosis which is sometimes visible on the programs she has done in the past. She say there is not a moment of her life when she isn't in pain.
Lawson - Born into a wealthy family, lucky enough to be pretty, and apparently bursting with good health, although I agree it is never possible to be sure of private info like that.
I'll get off my soap box now.
I do prefer Lawson's approach to food, although I think McKeith may have introduced more new food ideas to the UK, for better or for worse.
And sorry, but I take some things far too seriously for my own good.
SO not worth the cortisol usage humanbean ! .! .
Lol
Flower
I have plenty to spare, according to my last adrenal saliva test.
humanbean, I agree with you. Some people have hard lives and it shows. Also skin type makes a difference. Blonds age less well than brunettes. There's Greek women in their 60s who look better than light skinned women in their 40s. Must be something to do with collagen.
Sorry do not agree with you there - I live amongst Greek women here in Crete and the ones my age look incredibly old according to my husband. Those born after the war had to survive the Civil War - then the Generals. No music of the 60's - so they would not have heard the Stones and very little opportunity to work outside the kitchen.....
Things are only now beginning to change and very fast- although around us - one of my neighbours still cooks outside - grows all her own veg - gathers grass for her rabbits down our track - owns endless olive groves - asset rich - cash poor - younger than me - but does look years older. She is beautiful but her face looks tired and worn out. You can see her hard life reflecting in her face.
Perhaps you are talking about the ones that left Greece after the war and have enjoyed a good standard of living in Canada - Australia and beyond. If anyone is interested in the recent history of Greece - then do read Eleni - by Nicholas Gage. The saddest book I have ever read and left me feeling I was the luckiest girl alive in Greece Humbling to know some of my neighbours had suffered so much......
yes Marz, the imports.
Have not read Eleni but have read Captain Corelli's Mandolin which of course was not a memoire.
..... right now freebasing on Doc Martin. I am being held hostage by Oscar Wild, my cat. He's draped himself across my legs so I have no other realistic option in life but to watch more episodes of Doc Martin.
gabkad - I think you would also enjoy the other book written by the guy who wrote Captain Corellis Mandolin - ooops senior moment ! - Birds without Wings. It is about the population exchange between Turkey and Greece - again harrowing and puts whatever challenges we may have into perspective
Cat loving moments and Doc Martin sound incredibly warming too....
As it happens, I lived for a number of years in Scotland, and coming from the continent, I found it strange to see people buying half a cucumber and one or two tomatoes. I met many Scottish people, who by the way are extremely lovely, who ate only seasonal vegetables so in winter they didn't have such a varied diet. Also, when people are thin, they end up having by far more wrinkles than fatter people (although Lawson is not fat), and that's one of the reasons ( that I keep hold of my extra pounds!!
Nigella ... Not fat.. Just sexily voluptuous.
BTW, remember what her father looked like before he decided to diet? And look at his face now?
In the 70s, Lawson would have been considered fat. I bet her body fat percentage is more than 20-25.
Haha, I agree with you HB. I think the pic is usually used by people who would scuff at most of our health routines, too
Nigella obviously has TONS of makeup on, as well as botox and all the rest of it as far as we know. Gillian has just woken up in the jungle after days of stress. I used to go camping and working at festivals a lot in my pre-illness days, And I can tell you that the freshest faced 25 year old still looks very rough on 2 hours of sleep in the cold, no washing facilities and a rubbish breakfast.
Also, I'm a bit suspicious about what Nigella eats. She's obviously not on the cream buns EVERY night, or her curves would be a lot more extravagant!
I eat like Nigella (exc. taking wine) and look like Gillian. What's going on?.!!
Perhaps if you ate like Gillian.. you would look like Nigella/ ? ..
Lol
Flower
Lol - That was really funny Flower. Maybe I should give it a try - not.
X
Flower, you bad girl you!!
Mollyjane, we don't know what Nigella looks like when she gets out of bed in the morning. Look at that pushup bra business, for heavens sake. She's got 'cookies' in there for sure.
You mean you don't keep "cookies" in yours then gabkad. ? . ? .
Ha Ha, I'm loving the banter x I did keep cabbage leaves in mine for a short while... ( Stupid remedy for Mastitis when I was younger.Perhaps I should have kept cookies in there lol xx
I do my best to avoid the entire 'yours' business. Prefer to keep the puppies free.
Gabkad, I've never heard of a cookie ! Is it the same as a chicken fillet?
SilverAvocado: welcome to a glossary of all things 'bra': barenecessities.com/article...
There are even 'balconette' bras..... HA HA! Good heavens.
Do we know if she doesn't have Botox or collagen?
Probably ... For breakfast.
Lol

Oh, you made me laugh. Thank you for that as the doctors 'recommend' to start the day smiling which BTW, it's a good exercise for the facial muscles too....
It's also a great analgesic. Try laughing when you have toothache. It really works.
I don't think I would be able even to try to smile.
You'd be surprised! There's this exercise you learn in drama school to make yourself laugh - works like a charm! In the days when I had raging toothache, no job, no money and no insurance - therefore no dentist - I used to do that exercise as soon as it started to twinge, and would end up laughing hysterically at nothing at all. Result? No toothache!
For how long? Unfortunately, I developed terrible toothache while pregnant so had to wait until I gave birth to have root canal treatment.
I think that's the beauty of the internet. It's possible to prove anything with pictures. There are plenty of Nigella pictures online where she looks pretty haggard...visible hair loss, wrinkles, bags under the eyes. If the tabloids are to be believed, she's indulged in more than just chocolate and that can't be good.
There are also loads of pictures of Gillian looking glamorous. I tried a Gillian detox once and boy that was a weekend and a whole lot of loo paper wasted. Not entirely healthy either. In fact, it took weeks for my stomach to recover from it.
I think life is so short, you shouldn't waste your time worrying about these little things.
Life is also too short to spend it drinking spinach smoothies.
Have the odd glass of wine, or bowl of ice cream, but don't be a pig about it.
Be happy. Be healthy xx
Entirely agree with you. What ages people more than anything is stress. My mother was the type of person who took things lightly and, when she died at almost 99, had still a wrinkle free skin. We shouldn't also forget that our genes play a role in all this too.
So do our hormones! More than anything else.
Why do you differentiate between the two?
The two what?
You mentioned hormones as if being independent to the inherited genes I wrote about in the comment above.
Because they're two different things.
Genes are just possibilities, they have to be activated, they are not certainties.
Hormones, however, are. Many things can affect our production of hormones, not just genes, but the hormones that are produced affect everything about us - even down to the shape of our knees. We are our hormones, our hormones are us.
But one can sometimes control the hormones that come from the 'outside', but not our genes we are born with. I never took the pill because I didn't want to play with my hormones. Now, unfortunately, I have to take a medicine which stops my body from producing the smallest quantity of oestrogen and so being at the mercy of maybe developing osteoporosis.
Oh - you made me laugh - who will lead a longer life? I assume they've caught Gillian unawares - not having had time to titivate yet. Maybe like me when I arise from my slumbers in the morning I doubt I could open the door to anyone.
Hi Shaws, I think that was a picture of Gillian taken when she was on I'm a Celebrity Get me Out of Here, so basically living on bugs in a jungle! Unfair comparison or what? MariLiz
I have always thought we need animal protein and fats. I mean it just makes sense.
My sister-in-law is vegetarian and looks old at age 45.
Regretfully I wholly agree with you Justiina, regretfully cos I'm vegan!
I hope your sister-in-law doesn't read this forum lol xxx
Lol. Well she doesn't know about this forum.
But she admits she has aged a bit too fast. Tho I am not saying she is wrinkly that way. Maybe it is that her skin is not healthy colored etc. missing healthy nutrients and vitamins. She does not believe in vitamins! So not taking any and having very poor diet lacking important nutrients.
My pick-me-up is a lovely bar of good chocolate (all to myself). My endorphins then sing with joy
Meeeeeuuuuuuuhhhhh Never did get the chocolate thing - although my mother was a raving chocoholic and ate some stuff I wouldn't touch with a barge pole, and only vaguely fitted the trade description of chocolate - quality didn't matter to her, it was quantity that counted.
I'm a very sad creature, myself, who doesn't have anything to make her endorphins sing. Nothing really turns me on. I'm thinking and thinking and nothing comes to mind. How sad is that?
Mmmmm delicious thought x
Love it Grey Goose - where's the wine bottle??
Plenty in my dining room wine racks!
Yes, you do make us laugh grey goose, now I'm wondering what a group of sozzled hypothyroid/Hashimoto's etc would be like - more collapsed than ever! Must be a name for that ... a huddle? Huzzle?
A Huzzle! I like that! lol A Huzzle of Hypos! Yes!
You better watch out Grey Goose, this Huzzle might come round to guzzle your wine!
You are funny greygoose, It does make you wander... You have brightened my morning yet again. Have a lovely day x
Thank you, Mango, you too!
That sounds like a difficult thing to do, exclude 'life and other things'. What did they do? Keep several thousand people in a zoo for 60 years? There has to be a reason why they age at different speeds.
My dad is part time alcoholic and smoked for 40 years. He does not eat veggies and fruits. He has severe psoriasis and he has been outside a lot without caring about the sun damage.
He is 68 and you would think that he is super wrinkly and looks old . But no. He barely has any wrinkles and his skin color is really healthy.
So. Some people just are lucky no matter how little they try!
I just look at my neighbours around me: some maintain their youth in looks and energy, while others went through cancer and other diseases, but at the end, nobody knows who would outlive the others. I've seen in many couples, that, in sone cases, the one who had health problems outlived their partner who rarely visited their doctor.
I totally disagree though with Gillian's colonic irrigation! I can't imagine her enjoying being alive. If one can swallow and enjoys good food (I mean not too much of anything), then why not enjoy a glass of wine from time to time or whatever makes one smile looking at the food on the plate (or the drink in the glass or cup) which I read shouldn't be full....
Hey GG
I remember some youngster waxing lyrical about Keef's lifestyle before...a wiser observer responded that anyone seeking to try the sex n drugs n rock n roll diet probably wouldn't have the immediate availability of an emergency crash team following them, wherever they go, just in case.
You need real money to look that bad...but I love him anyway !
I don't think the two photos are fair, having never seen these women in the flesh, & certainly never under the same conditions.
It makes me wonder what NL looks like first thing in the morning, without a professional makeup artist, photographer, airbrushing, & perhaps botox or surgery, or is it that does GM needs to start taking cocaine & eating unhealthily? If NL ate all the things she promotes in her recipe books, she'd be the size of a bus!
I eat >90% clean food, largely out of necessity & feel better that way!
