Vit c

I am reading DR. Myhills book at moment and she recommends taking vit c before bed. But she mentions taking a large dose but am wondering if it would be wise to start off on a low dose say 500mg and work up slowly. Can anyone advise me please? Especially if you have. Done this yourself? Thank you in advance.

Hi- I take 500 mg twice a day with my ferrous sulphate to help the iron absorb. I sometimes double the dose if I have a cold and I have felt no ill effects at all.

Thank you Paulajane7. I already take 1000mg of vit c with my breakfast so maybe I should take it before bed instead. Will think about that one!

Vitamin C helps with the conversion of levothyroxine too.

Win_4ever,

Yes, it is wise to start off low as Vit C can have laxative effect..! ! ..

Both Dr Peatfield and Dr Wilson advocate BIG doses of Vit C for adrenal fatigue.

Dr Wilson says to supplement as much as your body can tolerate so you keep adding more until you experience the laxative effect.. and then drop back 500 mg to achieve your maximum daily dose.

If it were me, I would build up to the dose unless it was a dose I had been taking previously and was well with. Everyone is different and we all have different tolerances to things, even vitamin C :)

Hi - I have posted many times about this protocol suggested by Dr Myhill. I too have read her book and thought it made sense - especially when SIBO is mentioned so often - a condition that she prefers to call Gut Fermentation. I started with the suggested starting dose of 2000mg and have had a very positive response :-) She suggests increasing to 6000mg - or to bowel tolerance ! I will increase soon. It all makes sense. I was diagnosed with Crohns 42 years ago - have always avoided heavy medication so am happy to try this protocol. Have had endless surgeries - and I think it is part of keeping the gut healthy. I have been on it for 3 weeks now....

Hope you are enjoying the book as much as I did :-)

Thank you Marz and yes it makes for a very interesting read but as I have only just started it I have to rest from all the great information so it doesn't confuse me. Will probably read it through a few times. Can't get enough of good doctor advice especially when it is pointing to healing the body with diet and fest and knowledge of vits etc.

Thank you again Marz I really appreciate your time and experience.

It may be just me... but if I take vitamin C (soluble fizzy) before bed, I ALWAYS suffer worse insomnia!

I think the quality of the vit C counts, too. Isn't the fizzy stuff just citric acid? Whole vit C from fruit would be better - rose hips, or something.

No not just you jo, I was the same. I was taking 1000mcg in the early hours of the morning with my levo. I didn't notice any benefits either so I'm back to taking it in the morning with my brekkie!

Oh dear yes we are all different so thank you Joburton for reminding me. Have to try it and see if it works for me.

I found that too large a dose causes bladder irritation (bowel was ok )and many trips to loo .... Not great at night !

Could someone post the name of the book - it sounds interesting

Thanks

Her latest book is Sustainable Medicine. I've just had it delivered and only just got as far as a few pages onto Chapter 1.

I'm sure I saw somewhere that Dr Myhill recommends ascorbic acid but I can't find it now. I take about 4000-5000mg daily, make up a large drink (I use powder) and take throughout the day, a large amount with my ferritin and save some to take with my Levo at night. I've not yet reached bowel tolerance, I got up to 7000mg without any adverse effect on my bowel but didn't feel happy taking that amount every day so dropped back to my current dose.

I looked into getting a more natural source of Vit C such as rosehips or acerola but of you need to take it gram for gram the same as ascorbic acid then the cost is prohibitive tpauk.com/forum/threads/thy...

Hi Susie

Thanks so much. Will send for book pronto.

I was interested to read your experiences with Vit C - I tried as ascorbic acid BUT drunk it all at once and got the usual irritation (which I also got from time release capsules )

You idea of making it up and drinking it throughout the day is BRILL and tomorrow I shall try it.

many thanks

Andrea

Now that's a good idea to sip during the day! I'm going to try that too :)

I haven't read anything except the suggestion to take vit C before bed. There may be other suggestions involved, but I have found that if I take Vit C before bed, I either have to keep waking up to go to the loo or (as I did in my youth, find I have given myself a kidney problem by taking it and not going to the loo at night!) Not much to add, but hope it helps someone with a difficult night or possible illness!
