Get a scalpel with replaceable blades - with care and practice it works a lot better than a pill cutter in my opinion, and there is less crushing of pills :

Search on Amazon for "scalpel". I posted a link but it didn't work. :(

I bought a really good one from Kleeneze - much better than one I bought in pharmacy. I can manage to cut a smallish pill into quarters with this.

Infomaniac, I use Pillmate bought from a pharmacy. Can quarter a Levothyroxine tablet if I press the blade slowly and firmly.

Most of the time I just use what I have, thankfully, been supplied with by nature... good strong nails on my thumbs! Placed either side of the score I literally break the tablets in half. However, when they either break or start flaking (not very often, gladly!) I use a scalpel with a triangular shaped blade (the sharp side square to the surface you're cutting) on a porcelain saucer. Works very well! Every pill cutter I have tried (granted, not many) ended up crushing the small T3 tablets and even the slightly larger T4s.

Lucky you to have strong nails! Mine are so crap I have to have them gelled which makes them quite thick so your method is out unfortunately :-(

Just ordered this one which has very good reviews and should work well on my one and a half grain Armour tablets (for a split dose).
