It seems so damned unfair that the weight piles on for no apparent reason, I have done the harsh dieting...hardly worth the deprivation at my age almost 78 now, so if Im going to have to put up with most of the lousy symptoms that go with this complaint, I have decided to enjoy my food , there has to be something nice to look foreword to..........
Yes it is unfair to put on so much weight particularly when you have tried all avenues. I have the same problem. Just find it difficult to lose the weight but for me it is compounded by having Charcot, Marie Tooth Disease. I tried slimming world and weight watches and found I was putting on more. They both told me I was not eating enough!!
I did a year of weight watchers and ended up 2 1/2 stone heavier than when I started!
Ive tried every diet going and am bigger than ever and my weight seem to be still increasing. I think dieting has made me bigger. My GP referred me to obesity clinic which is attended once a month and I have not lost anything in 4 months. Many of the other people attending in my group have put weight on. All this clinic seem interested in is bariatric surgery (probably where their funding comes from). Just seems a waste of time as I told them and my GP at the beginning I have no intention of putting myself through this kind of surgery and if the consultants I saw 6 years ago when I was smaller (though not skinny enough) gave me the knee replacements I need I would still be able to walk and cycle. I know I have undiagnosed thyroid problems which Drs dont seem to want to know. Joolz.x
This topic drives me crazy! I am in the same situation and I am currently trying to get as much information and hopefully answers to this problem.
My conclusions so far is that it is under medication, in particular of T3. Evidently it is not "fat" in the usual sense, it is a substance called "mucin" which soaks up water and that adds to your bulk and weight.
I am personally trying to combat this at the moment by increasing my NDT dose to 1 1/2 grains (from 1 1/4) and taking 12mg of T3 in the afternoon. the latter is going to be raised to 25mg if I get no effect weight-wise from that dose.
I will let you know how I get on.
For what it is worth, I experimented last year by exercising one and one half hours per day (half "toe touches" and stretches in the morning and one hours cycling in the afternoon). I did this for three months and it was not worth it weight wise, not one ounce of the 35 lb I put on (when my stupid Endo lowered my dose) did I lose. It's all about T3, and, like I said, I will post here if I am right.
Oh, and here are a couple of links which will get you started:
