hi, i was diagnosed 2 years ago and taking 100mg levothyroxine, however i am still very symptomatic, my hair is still falling out, haven't lost an oz even though i hardly eat as i feel nauseous when i do. so im thinking of changing to NDT and asking my gp for help, how do i change from levo to NDT?

Doctors wont prescribe NDT. Some private Endocrinologists do.

If you have had a recent blood test for your thyroid gland, get a copy from the surgery with the ranges and post them for comments. It just might be that you are not on sufficient and an increase or the addition of T3 might do the trick.

When was your last blood test? Have you had B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate checked?

Hi , completely understand how you feel l had a tt 8 months ago and had no experience of levothyroxine until then started on 100 mrg but tsh kept coming back as not complying so they increased to 125 then 150 mrg still symptomatic but had incredible chest pain migraine & excessive sweating but not hyper . After pleading with Endo and gp for help or alternative and both refusing l purchased my own NDT and am 5 weeks in . Within a week l had no more chest pain or sweating and migraine's. Its a tough road not going to lie especially as very few Endos or Gps will prescribe but in my opinion a slow death , which l felt was what levothyroxine was doing to me is no life . Good luck do your research and l hope you get a good gp to support you. Jane

Could I ask how many grains you take and which NDT, Jane19? I was also on 150mcg of Levo after a TT. Trying to figure out dosing on Thiroyd.

I am also contemplating going it alone on ndt and would appreciate feedback. I am on 50mg t4 and a 1/4 tab of t3, that's 12.5mg. Getting palps, and feeling weird.Elsa.

i felt bad on it for years, then added Armour and not much better; switched this year to Nature-Throid and it made a world of diffetence in every way. good luck.

i had stopped the levo, but recently had terrible symptoms, so added back the 100mcg levo and feeling wonderful on the 2 of them(levo & Nature-throid) Nature-throid dose is 97.5m ;doses are made differently than Armour.
