Hi can someone help. I've had a private blood test to test my thyroid. It's come back as t4 at level 159 and tsh at 0.65. They advised to see doctor if having symptoms, which I am, but after researching on the net it seems they probably won't do anything about it. What are your thoughts?
Blood results: Hi can someone help. I've had a... - Thyroid UK
Blood results
What are the ranges, please?
TSH range is 0.27 - 4.2 and mine was 0.65
Free thyroxine is 12.0 to 22.00 mine was 17.2
Total thyroxine t4 59 - 154 mine was 159
Free t3 3.1 - 6.8 mine was 5.5
I think your results are good. Others will probably respond too. I know TT4 is slightly over but did you leave a gap of approx 24 hours between the last dose of levo and the test?
The main question is 'how are you feeling'. You say you still have symptoms and you're right I don't think GP will increase.
You could say to him 'is it possible to add some T3 and reduce the levo on a trial basis' as I'm still having symptoms'. He could reduce T4 by 25mcg and add 10mcg of T3.
I'm not on any medication at all
I decided to have a private test as I've been having symptoms of a thyroid problem for a long time but my doctor just said I'm stressed so wanted to check it out. So this is all very new to me and don't understand these levels very well. The lab who done the test this morning rang me and said my t4 was too high so suggested I take it up with my doctor. After googling it I came across this site and thought I'd see what you guys said 😁
Kezzamarsh, it was the Total T4 that was too high, but that means very little. Total means that it's all the T4 in your blood Stream, but most of it will be unusable because it's been bound to proteins and stuff. What is important is your FT4 - the Free - the T4 that is available for your body to convert into T3 - the active hormone - T4 is a storage hormone.
Your FT4 is very good. And seems to be converting to T3 very nicely. So, given those results, I doubt your doctor would do anything - he would probably just look at the TSH, anyway!
But, did you have the antibodies tested? TPOab and TgAB? If those are high they could give you symptoms. And that will mean that your thyroid will possibly fail at some point. So, best to keep testing on a yearly basis if you have antibodies.
Another good thing to test is your vit B12, because if that is low, it will give you hypo-like symptoms.
