You were wise to ask. This is an excerpt from an article mainly dealing with osteo and hypo:-

Another study was presented at the Spring 2000 Endocrine Society meeting, suggesting that an over-the-counter dietary supplement called Promensiltm; can help in preventing osteoporosis. Promensil, manufactured by Novogen, Ltd., is a natural dietary supplement made from plant estrogens (isoflavones) extracted from red clover. Some experts, however, believe that the concentrated isoflavones in Promensil will negatively impact thyroid health in the same way that isoflavones from soy foods and supplements can increase the risk of thyroid problems and aggravate existing thyroid problems.

Wow! I'd never heard of it before so I googled it. Saw it on Amazon. The price!!! And all it really contains in the way of 'active ingredient' is Red Clover. You can buy that, without all the bulking agents, at less than an eighth of the price elsewhere! You're just paying for the name. What a con!

Sorry, I've never tried it so can't comment on it's effectiveness, I was just taken aback by the price. Do look for somehting cleaper. They shouldn't be allowed to get away with that!

I tried red clover tea (and anything else you can think of) for hot flushes, but the only thing that made a difference (and that wasn't worth taking) was agnus castus - sage tea is nice, but wasn't effective for me. But what works depends on what is causing your hot flushes.

If you think it menopause, it is worth doing one of those Menopause Type questionnaires which try to identify your hormone imbalance by your symptoms.

I'm way past menopause! lol I didn't even know when I was going through it, having had a hysterectomy at the age of 41, so can't say how long ago it was. Myself, I didn't have a single hot flash so I can't even imagine what it's like.

I took high dose sage (2000 mg) once daily and it worked well for me. It wasn't expensive and I got it online at Healthspan. Clemmie

Thanks everyone, it was a leaflet in the doctors waiting area! It was offering 1 months supply free. I hadn't got so far as finding out how much it cost.

I am sure there are cheaper things. Thanks again.

I really feel that doctors shouldn't have commercial advertising in their surgeries. A friend went for a health check at his GP and found it was sponsored by Flora and they insisted on giving him coupons, which he declined.

Yes I agree with you.

BEWARE: Yes it does affect anyone with a thyroid or liver issue and the outcome is extremely negative!
