Has anyone had much success with the low FODMAP diet with Hashimotos? A dietician gave us a leaflet and told us to get on with it but expect it to take up to 8 weeks, currently at week 4 and after initial slight improvement with Ibs symptoms now worse than ever.

Gut issues are immensely common with long term thyroid issues/Hashimotos and any way of eating that may help repair the gut is worth considering.
However, be aware that things like edamame beans contain soy, and seaweed contains iodine, and raw cruciferous veg contain glucosinolates so are not recommended to be eaten raw.
I have Hashimotos and a low carb diet has always worked well for me, and then combining with a gluten free diet helped even further.

Thank you for your reply. Most of the gluten free flours etc have rice flour or cornflour which I believe should be avoided, But the dietician said they were ok to eat, I’m not convinced

I wonder what reasoning you have been given for avoiding these ?
The aid diets I have seen say to disclose them. Interesting that you don’t have an issue with them. We may try and remove them and see if things improve. It’s frustrating that our gp only seems to be able to work on the symptoms and not the causes. Almost like self trial and error is best. Maybe I’m just getting frustrated with a lack of ability to fix the issue.
Your daughter needs to test her vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin
Low vitamin levels are extremely common with Hashimoto's
Gluten free diet is the most popular option, many many people find this helps

Thank you for your reply. My daughter has been tested for celiac but doesn’t have it. Low FODMAP is gluten free but Most of the gluten free flours etc have rice flour or cornflour which I believe should be avoided, the dietician said they were ok to eat, I’m not convinced. It is also lactose free not dairy free
The first 8 weeks are the exclusion and substitution part of the low FODMAP diet, before you begin reintroduction of the FODMAP foods to see which you can tolerate and at what levels (generally people don't have a problem with them all). As with any temporary exclusion of foods, the body is going to be affected to some degree, by their absence and to a degree, to what non/low-FODMAP foods you've put in its place to ensure a healthy diet; and may take a while to acclimatise to the changes. So I'd say it's early days yet. There's the possibility too I guess, that you've substituted some non/low-FODMAP foods to which she may have a sensitivity too perhaps?
Fodmap did not work for me either.
The only thing I have found to work is Bimuno Daily. I dissolve a sachet in hot water in the evening. I try to buy it when Boots have a 241 offer!
Could be worth trying a box to see how you get on.
