just looked up. sounds delicious - will get stuff tomorrow. Does your Dog like pears - or cucumber ? lol
GG, it sounds delicious, even though I'm not mad about ginger. Is that a very large pear or very small lovely dog?
My thought exactly, Clutter. That's some huge humdinger of a pear if that dog is normal size. Do they grow pears bigger in France or what?
LOL! Never tried a drink with pears, they always tend to make me feel as though my adrenals are playing up. Cucumber, melon and ginger is great (and possibly not as exciting for dogs).
Well, pears are goitrogenic, so that could be why. I couldn't eat them when I relied on my gland for some of my hormone. Now that my gland is dead - or as good as - I Don't have any trouble with them.
Sorry me again. probably a stupid question but how did you find out your thyroid was dead ? and did they remove it
No, not a stupid question at all.
About 8 years ago, I saw a certain specialist in Paris, and he took one look at me and said 'Madame, your thyroid is dead!' And that was before doing any tests.
But he wasn't entirely right. Two years ago, for reasons I won't go into, I came off all thyroid hormone replacement. After six months, I got a test, and I had just a tiny bit of T4, but very little T3. TSH was 35. So, my gland was producing a tiny little bit - it was making an effort, so to speak, so not entirely dead. But not able to make enough for me to live on. I was very proud of it! lol
But the fact that I have to take massive doses does rather point to a dead gland and/or hormone resistance.
That's very interesting as I am sure mine is still producing erratically. Some days I am almost a bit hyper, and without having changed my meds (so then I cut them down and juggle a bit) . I read on Dr Myhills page that sometimes the gland just does shoot some out.
YesI I understand your pride (!) felt quite sorry that my poor old gland was being shut down (or almost) by a man made hormone when it still had something to give . I wish we could have some way of measuring like diabetics do, on a more regular basis.
While you were off all the thyroid hormone stuff, how awful did you feel? Did you get anxiety ? I don't know anything about hormone resistance so will now look it up.
Do you take both hormones now, or NDT
I felt great at first. I didn't have any anxiety. But, it's difficult to tell, really, because I'd just come out of hospital, drugged up to the eyeballs with poisons like Beta-blockers and PPIs, and stuff that made me feel so weak I couldn't hold my head up properly... and then my dog died, so I was all messed up emotionally. And then I started to put on weight. So, I thought, that's enough!
My doctor wanted to put me on Levo at that point. He said that was THE treatment for hypo, and he didn't know any other. I told him I wasn't taking Levo and that was that. I wanted Cynomel. And although he didn't have the slightest idea what it was, he gave it to me. I no-longer see that doctor - or any doctor, come to that! - but I'm still on T3 only.
Mmmmm, sounds nice and looks like one I should try.
I had a cat that used to go mad for cucumber.
