Before the blood tests were introduced along with levothyroxine (hormones) we were diagnosed according to our clinical symptoms and given a trial of NDT.

Nowadays the doctors have been instructed to go only by the TSH test with the result that some people aren't diagnosed for years and given medication for the symptoms and not hormones which they may need.

In most ranges, 13 would be near the bottom for T4 - has your GP considered secondary hypo? It's only considered rare as the NHS don't test for it.

Welcome to the forum, Auldle1th.

Ask your GP receptionist or practice manager for a printout of your results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after your results) and post them in a new question for comment.

You won't get a diagnosis until TSH is over range or FT4 below range.

Low/deficient ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate can cause symptoms similar to hypothyroid symptoms so ask your GP to test. Post the results in a new question and members will advise whether you should supplement.

It is like alot of illnesses if you are in range you cannot have anything wrong with you. These doctors that cannot think outside the box and not take patients symtoms into account should get another profession. As we are the ones that suffer ,i wonder if they would think outside the box if it was a member of there own family.

They just make you feel so annoyed when you know there's something wrong and you walk out in the same boat as when you went in.I hope you will get sorted soon.

Lizzy1606 - totally agree with you. I despair at what passes for GPs these days.

Not what you're looking for?
