I've had a underactive Thyroid since 2003.Im now 50yrs old and every 6mths I get my blood tested at my gps which he says I'm hitting all the right numbers.
Problem is the tiredness is now getting me down also no sex drive etc.
I was wondering if anyone has a list of the foods that can HELP hypothyroidism? Please help
Something tells me that you're not hitting all the right numbers, actually. Doctors seem to believe that results within a range are ok, when we know around here from bitter experience that they really aren't. I'd be bed bound by now if I'd believed my GP when he said there was nothing wrong with my thyroid.
What dose of levothyroxine are you taking? When did you last have your bloods done, and do you know what the results were?
Hello redsectora,
Welcome to our forum and sorry to hear that you are not feeling well.
You sound undermedicated as adequate thyroid hormone replacement should alleviate hypothyroid symptoms. If you post recent blood test results complete with ranges ( numbers in brackets), members can comment.
A long term inadequately medicated thyroid condition could compromise your vitamin and iron levels. Therefore ask you doctor to test Vit B12, Vit D, folate and ferritin and post these results too.
A "hypothyroid diet" is a normal diet comprising of lots of proteins, fats and carbs. It is recommended to cook all cruciferous vegetables in order to destroy an enzyme thought to encourage a goitre (swelling on the thyroid gland.) Also soya is controversial, so best avoided.
I agree with flower and jazz. Also no matter how much I upped my Synthroid (T4 only) I was still tired. 2 months ago I switched to Armour (T4 & T3) and added iron and B12 and have had more energy than in the past 5 years
I have found that this site helps tremendously. She has the website Hypothyroidmom.com where they have all kinds of discussions about different aspects of Hypothyroidism and a lot of great advice, check it out. I subscribe to her and get updates on different subjects all the time which are very informative.
No food will bring back thyroid function, but sensitivities can cause Hashimotos or so they say . Some people are just lacking iodine and don't have Hashimoto. Iodine can improve or fix a thyroid problem..best if avoided with Hashi's. You should find out why your thyroid doesn't work.
I have a policy of telling my endo the truth! He does not like it but I will not allow him to reduce my meds based on blood tests alone. There are other tests that can be done easily, such as the reflex test, this costs nothing as do many other tests. Don't be linded by the one sided science that your doctor comes up with, just remember that they cram the book on thyroid problems in one afternoon and will probably never open it again.
