Hi. I had my thyroid removed in 1999. I'm on 150mgs Levothyroxine. I had a cvt stroke in Jan this year. I'm 48 years of age. I had thyroid tests run in hospital as part of blood test etc for my stoke. I was told that my levels were 'off' but they (stroke docs) would not change my dosage and to have it rechecked when home. I did manage to get tested again about one month after being home and again GP said they are alightly off but still won't change dosage as ' traumatic events' can make levels change. Stoke wise I'm recovering very well and think how I'm feeling now are more thyroid related rather than stroke. How so I push the thyroid problems and not have them brushed under carpet as stroke side effects.

Welcome to the forum, HoppyD.
Good news that you're recovering from the stroke.
I'm not sure what you mean by thyroid levels being 'slightly off'. Ask your GP receptionist or practice manager for a copy of your thyroid results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after your results) and post them in a new question. Members will be able to advise whether your levels are optimal or need tweaking. If you've had ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate tested recently post those results too.

This doctor wrote the following. The gist is that lots of us are given doses which are too low, thus we can develop other diseases. Read page 4 in particular but the whole article is informative.
