I was wondering if anyone knows someone who was on ndt before the synthetic stuff came on the market. It would be interesting to know their stories

Sandcastle, an American lady in her 70s/80s posted last year. She was diagnosed when she was a child on symptoms and prescribed NDT long before synthetic thyroid replacement and TSH testing in the 70s.
Did she have to change to synthetic? What did she say about long term use of ndt? I find it fascinating
Thank you anyway. Another question - I stopped taking levothyroxine one day and started ndt the next - reading one of your items it would suggest I shouldn't have done this. Also, if I increase ndt until 2grains before blood tests won't I be over dosed as I only used to take 100 Levo? Sorry if I am a pain but trying to do things right
Sandcastle, If someone is on high dose Levothyroxine and replaces with the 1/2 grain NDT recommended as a starting dose in order to avoid becoming hypothyroid they should reduce Levothyroxine dose while they build up the NDT dose.
You should stop at 1 grain if you feel well but if you feel you need more go to 1.5 or 2 grains. 1 grain is supposed to be bioactively equivalent to 100mcg Levothyroxine but I think it is overstated as most people switching to NDT seem to need more than the 1 grain equivalent. Temporary over replacement isn't anything to worry about.
