Just on the off chance: I have been referred to an endocrinologist, and have the choice of 3 hospitals locally: Stepping Hill, Wythenshawe, and Manchester Royal Infirmary. Does anyone have experience of the endocrinology departments at any of these? I'd be very glad to hear from you!
Recommendations for specific endocrinologists via private messages please in line with posting guideline #25, thank you.
Gettingquiteannoyed, email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk for the list of endos recommended by members, one or more may be at the hospitals you've mentioned.
My suggestion would be to stay away from the MRI. My daughter has been seen there three times and the endo's know next to nothing about thyroid, neither are they interested.
If your TSH is not above 10 - the only figure they use, then there is nothing wrong with you - it's all in the mind. Symptoms don't count. They don't approve any drug other than levo either. I had a right humdinger of an argument - on behalf of my daughter, with the head of department to get her treated, and that was after I had got her treatment started with Dr Skinner. They will literally sit and laugh at you and make you feel small.
Not sure about the endo's at Stepping Hill - not a hospital I like even though I did my nurse training there 40 years ago.
I find that Wythenshaw is best, but again, not experienced the endo department.
Wythenshawe Hospital I was referred to Wythenshawe Hospital then to Christie's because some Endocrinologists are based at Christie's that work at Wythenshawe and I have had great treatment from them with Graves Disease and TED.
I would say WYTHENSHAW without a doubt. I am under them for several issues. Get in quick too because the gov are going to stop us being referred to Endo's
Hello Gettinquiteannoyed, I have used most of the hospitals in Manchester and would suggest Wythenshawe as my experience there for several different conditions has been very good. I would not use Stepping Hill personally, have heard mixed reports and get bad vibes. MRI, been there too for ENT, it's ok, but I rate Wythenshawe better. Just my experience and opinion, I hope you get a satisfactory consultation, let us know how it goes!
Could someone who goes to Wythenshawe for thyroid private message me with the name of the Dr you see? I seriously need an Endo who cares and can help my thyroid.
