Hello, I have to book an appointment at the endocrinology department of either Bedford, Hinchingbrooke or Lister Hospital and was wondering if anyone has any recent experience of these? I currently have T3 prescribed privately, so I would rather go somewhere where they are not dismissive of this. Although that might be a vain hope!
Which hospital to choose?: Hello, I have to book... - Thyroid UK
Which hospital to choose?
Be worth checking out the doctors at each hospital to ensure you are seen by an endocrinologist who specialises in thyroid problems and not by an endo who specialises in diabetes. Big difference!
What about Addenbrooke’s? I was seen there by a thyroid specialist - or by several, I had Graves Disease, Addenbrooke’s is a teaching hospital, I went regularly for a year, they were all very pleasant, it was very well organised and clean etc but I never saw the same doctor twice. I’m not sure how they feel about T3 though.
What about contacting ThyroidUK for advice? thyroiduk.org
Thanks for your reply. I've looked online and couldn't see much info about the actual doctors. One of the hospitals seemed to emphasise diabetes a lot more than thyroid problems. I hadn't thought of contacting ThyroidUK so thanks for the suggestion.
Addenbrooke's isn't on my list of ones I can choose from, although I have been there in the past. It was a very pleasant hospital but I didn't get any useful help.
Addenbrooke's is Cambridgeshire. And Cambridgeshire are anti T3. None for new patients

I know it is, so is Hinchingbrooke, Bedford is in Bedfordshire and Letchworth is in Hertfordshire. People go to Addenbrooke’s from all over the place.
I had a feeling they might not be keen on prescribing T3 although as Repton1 buys it herself and they don’t have to provide it - that might make a difference
You might find a T3 aware one in your area here... thyroiduk.org/contact-us/ge...
Useful question. We patients need a UK wide map with hospitals coded in traffic light colours.. red for hard avoid, orange for named consultants and green for “all consultants listen to their patients before advising and don’t go by numbers alone, but by symptoms”.
