Ok this is going to sound crazy. I have been doing a whole ton of research and I'm almost 100% sure I am low t3. It seems to be getting worse every day. I have tried to make a doctors appointment many times and they are completely full, soonest I can get is June 11th! I dread to think what condition I will be in by then, and will have to wait another 2 weeks to get the results and order any meds... I blatantly have myxedema and I hurt all over...I have every symptom. I am struggling to function, I sit down in a depressed fog most of the day. I literally can't stand this any longer. Would it be at all considerable to order some t3 and give it a trial very low dose and see if that helped? I have seen most people agree unlessyou have a heart pproblem (I don't) there is no harm in giving it a go? I am also intending to buy some b complex today and I have kelp tabs, I was thinking of adding all these things in gradually over the next couple of weeks while getting exercise, fresh air, sun and lots of healthy food. All these things result in my sleeping for 16 hrs a day atm! I wouldn't consider this at all but I don't know if I can stay like this for another month and a half. Given I may have to do this anyway, would it be worth a go now, even without blood tests/diagnoses?
Almost 100% sure with no tests really not sure enough. Why not order yourself a full thyroid function test where you check, tsh, free t3, free t3 and antibodies. That way you will know exactly where you are starting from. You can deal direct with the lab yourself, should be change from £100 and then you will be able to make a decision.
Superparrot, if you are low in T3, exercise is going to make it worse. Exercise uses up your T3 - and all your hormones, come to that.
Don't take a B complex until you get your B12 and folate tested, or you will skew the results.
Kelp is high in iodine, which really isn't recommened if you have Hashi's. You should never take iodine unless you've had a test to say you're low. And even then, it should be approached with caution.
Taking any form of thyroid supplementation will skew the blood tests and compromise getting a diagnosis.
What you can do to feel a bit better is take some magnesium - they won't test for that, anyway. Low magnesium is going to give you a lot of symptoms and make you feel really bad. And plenty of vit C. Eat plenty of fat - you need it to make hormones - and plenty of salt, to support your adrenals. And plenty of calories, come to that. Starving yourself is only going to make things worse!
Thanks so much greygoose! You are absolutely right of course. Interestingly, I have been taking magnesium, eating lots of fats and avoiding exercise anyway, for that very reason certainly I am being very careful about this as I have had quite enough of messing my health around! Thanks for your ideas and kind words xx♥
