Private Free T3 test

Hi

Can the FT3 test through Genova or Blue Horizon be done at home by the finger prick method or does the blood have to be taken by a nurse.

When I had mine done previously I did the finger test but looking on the web sites I cannot see if it can be done this way now.

Thank you browny

Hi

thanks for replying,

the one I was looking at is just under £40 but it says it has to be done at your G.P's surgery or a Spire Hospital.

The home seems to be far more expensive, or am I reading it wrong.

Well they don't do FT3-only, and the various options which include FT3 are more than £40. On the other hand, no cost of getting to a blood draw location or fee for the draw (if applicable).

There might be other options - I simply remembered that one.

Browny, your local hospital may do a blood draw for £10-£20. Alternatively there's TSH, FT4 & FT3 finger prick test for £88.75 homebloodtests.co.uk/epages...

Thanks Clutter,

I don't understand why a FT3 test has to have blood drawn by a nurse or G.P. but TSH, FT4 and FT3 can be done by finger prick tests, as the three tests need more blood taken.

Browny, I imagine it is more to do with their business model than the amount of blood required.

Yes that's what crossed my mind,

I had a FT3 test from Blue Horizon couple weeks ago. With the discount it was £29, I managed to get a nurse from my surgery to draw the blood, I had to get permission from my GP though. Blue Horizon send everything you need for the test.

I've just done an FT3 and FT4 done yesterday with Genova and it was a urine test. No problem at all.
