Bobsmydog, Check out Genova and Blue Horizon thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin... If you want rT3/FT3 ratio you'll need a FT3 test at the same time.

Thanks. Both of those require blood drawn though :-(

I've been in touch previously with blue horizon and they don't know of anyone to draw blood in Swansea and I've asked around here and can't find anyone to do it so am stuck with finger prick testing only.

Bobsmydog, don't they do rT3 finger tests? If not, ask your GP phlebotomist or the phlebotomy dept at your local hospital whether they will draw blood if you pay privately. I've seen people say they've paid £10-20 at the their phlebotomy dept. You may find a mobile phlebotomy service via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

My local NHS hospital do it for £15. Ring your hospital haemotology dept. direct to ask.

Hi,

I have just been enquiring with Blue Horizon for a RT3 test and they say a doctor cannot take the bloods as they have to be spun & frozen and returned to the lab within a short space of time and only offered a finger prick test for the FT3 (not RT3) and a hospital 25 mile away for the RT3.

Hope this helps

OK. Thanks for explaining why the RT3 can't be done this way!

Bobsmydog.

We can't help with our own RT3 as you already know. But Genova don't have a freezing requirement I think?

So if you try Ivan from noviche he has a mobile phlebotomist in Swansea!

Happy to help. ☺

In the US I have to have my blood tests done privately and I use True Health Labs. They operate out of Georgia but have labs in Europe and the UK. Its all done via the internet, you pay them up front, they send you a voucher (or purchase order) and give you a list of local draw labs who can do these draws, i.e. have the ability to do the spinning and freezing etc. That draw lab then sends the blood samples to the appropriate labs to do the analysis. If you Google "True Health Labs" you can get all info about them.

True Health Labs do not operate as themselves in the UK. They refer to Genova - are they a subsidiary?

Good point, I will call them and post their reply. It is Saturday so I may not get an answer today.

OK, they were closed today but this is what I found out. Basically they use Genova.

If you go to the True Health Labs (THLs) web site.

Hover over "International Tests"

Drag down the menu to "Europe"

Drag down that menu to "Thyroid Europe"

Click

You will now see a list of Available tests (reverse T3 is one of them)

Click on the test you want.

Click on "Draw Locations for this test"

You will see a page headed by "Chose a Lab Test Category"

Click on "UK Draw Centers"

And here you will see that they utilize Genova.

If THLs have any further info as a result of my e-mail and/or telephone message, I will post. But I think the trail ends at Genova.

If it is Genova, then you simply go to the Thyroid UK website:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

And get a discount as well! :-)
