But I should think most of it's right. Personally, I will never take any dangerous drug ever again!

I think we shall have to study every prescription soon.

What to make of the Dessicated thyroid reference: avoid, low risk, high strength of recommendation!

Confused?

It's rubbish. Pure ignorance. What alternative do you think they're talking about? Synthetic T4! What else is there?

Treepie profile image

It was not the alternative but the logic of the recommendation " avoid" being of high strength but the risk is "low"

Crackers.

As I said in the title, they got some of it wrong.

What changes between the day before your 65th birthday and your birthday?

The same as changes between an FT3 of 6.0 (3.0 - 6.0) and an FT3 of 6.1 (3.0 - 6.0). All ranges are arbitary! But knowing what I know now, I wouldn't take any of that muck at 20!

We should always check prescriptions especially that you are given the right tablet. Years ago a pharmacist gave me antidepressants instead on antihistamines, I spent quite some hours in a bad way!

That is very true! I was once given 75 mcg levo instead of 175! I put on 14 kilos in a month and nearly committed homicide! But when I pointed it out to the pharmacists, she said, oh, it's only a little difference!!!

Since then, I check carefully. About a year ago, my s-i-l got my prescription for me, and when I checked there were THREE mistakes! Once again, the pharmacists wasn't repentant, she just said to my s-i-l : Oooo I am a naughty girl! You'll have to spank me!

It's a good job my daugher wasn't there, or she'd have got more than a spanking! lol

Yikes!!!! Its scary really but always good to check! X

What is scary is that doctors prescribe tons of this stuff without a second thought. They have no idea what the side-effects might be - and, worse still, if you complain of side-effects, rather than take you off the drug, or find an alternative, they will give you another drug to 'treat' the side-effect! They rarely search for the root of the problem, just stick a plaster on it!

I wholeheartedly agree! Absolutely bonkers! Before you know where you are you have a cupboard full of pills and at the docs all the time cos you feel bad! I don't like taking too many pills but do confess to the antihistamines but then I can't drink and it appears to be my only vice lolol! X

I know what you mean. I hit rock-bottom last year and decided to chuck the lot out! Well, took them back to the pharmacy. I will not take anymore beta-blockers, PPIs or blood thinners etc ever again! I didn't even need them, because I'm much better now I'm off them.

Well done! My dad, who to be fair probably needs his cupboard full at the age of 90 lol!!, is always threatening to stop them all and I do sometimes wonder. A gp years ago put me on antidepressants and benzos and I felt worse, he would do everything rather than up my thyroxine! All better now though thank god and I am very rarely ill Yay! X
