Off topic but help please re BNF

I have the BNF March 2015 up on my lap top but cannot find the prices of prednsolone or anything else for that matter.

Is access to the prices no longer available or am I just being a muppet?

Reason for asking is I asked for enteric coated pred. and was told no as not available because of prescribing guide lines.

evidence.nhs.uk/formulary/b...

If you look at the above page, then scroll to the bottom and click on the names listed in "Sub-Sections".

On this page :

evidence.nhs.uk/formulary/b...

the prices of the tablets are listed in the Sub-Sections part - just click on the name of the product to display it.

The second of the two links above mentions e/c which stands for enteric coated.

Hi humanbean, thank you for the link I have decided I have become a muppet, was on the right page but did not go down far enough. I had spent ages wandering around the site.

I have the pred for PMR.

Have had RA for over 20 yrs. After a hip replacement nearly 2 yrs. ago I kept being sick and investigation found I has an ulcer probably due to NSAIDs for many years. I asked for enteric to protect my stomach . Prescribing guidance will now save 50p a month. I wonder how much it will cost for my treatment if this ulcer gets worse. Sorry for rant. Thanks again.

I'd go back and ask again offering to fund the difference in cost. Or, not having any idea of the price of this enteric coated stuff, is it worth asking for it on private prescription? ...

thank you for your reply poshpenny, a months supply is £1.32 and the enteric coated is £1.83. I had not thought of your good idea of pay difference or private. It is well something I will consider.

I feel so angry that prescribing guide lines prevent me from having the most suitable meds. for my condition of PMR. and which would prevent me from ascerbating sp? my ulcer condition.

poshpenny it is not the cost as such but the principal, especially when I read people are getting yakult, toothpaste and sun screen on the NHS.

Again apology for the rant.

It's such a joke really, if they'd not refused to prescribe it, you would never have found out how little it costs and that the prescription charge is significantly higher than the cost of the medicine. all for the sake of trying to save 50p
