Thanks for posting this topaz. It is something that needs to be kept in the news.
J.bee is right in saying that it should be kept in the news, also some toothpastes that contain flouride.
Hi topaz1
Fluoride in water has been connected to an increase in hypothyroidism. I did a little research after your posting, and read that the U K government is readying to compel fluoridating water here too, despite the massive amount of research documenting the health problems that come along with the practice. A good place to start investigating further yourself would be the Fluoride Action Network, based in the US but with information internationally. Do your own search online. It's a good time to get informed about this here, and to write letters to the editor, emails or phonecalls to your MP, local townhall councillors, your dentist, and so on. The very people who need to know its dangers tend to be too busy to be informed accurately. You can get your school informed too. It's a very worthy cause. I hope you can commit to informing others about this, as fluoride is nonbiodegradable and doesn't leave a person's body once it enters, hence the warning against children swallowing it in the fluoridated toothpaste in the USA. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Thanks Ransom - you sound more clued up than I, but will try to do something.
Yes, it is odd that they would considera reduction in tooth cavities a satisfactory trade-off for an epidemic of thyroidism - but that seems to be the gist.
Here's a quote from Mercola.com, 2010:
"Fluoride also lowers thyroid function. Fluoride was used in European medicine during the 1930s through 1950s to treat patients with overactive thyroid glands. This is a very real and significant concern today as millions of people suffer with low thyroid function.
The levels of fluoride people are now getting from fluoridated water (and other sources) now equal the levels used in Europe to suppress overactive thyroid glands. [From page 234 of “Fluoride in Drinking Water” (2006), National Research Council"
You can make a big difference with just a little clearly written information given to the right people. Media - communication - is everything. Make your own document with excerpts from other reports, and hand yours to whoever seems appropriate. Every difference, communicated, makes a difference. Good luck and keep on caring!

Goodness Ransom - I think you should be the one to get the message out, you seem very clued up.
I am clued up on several issues, topaz1, and ahve been involved in several over the decades in the US! But time and energy are lacking to pursue all of them, so I'm selective, especially now. I've had leg problems most of my adult life, which takes energy and time away. Also I had two major hip surgeries 3 months apart, the last being right before Christmas, so am l imping and still in pain (bringing my total hip surgeries up to six in number). I can do things online, ie research and knowledge, or talking, but not yet the walking around. Also my 97 year old mother is requiring a lot of time/thought/attention.
You can accomplish a lot if you consider carefully and remember most people who don't respond favourably initially are simply ignorant. Patience, persistence and prayer make a lot of difference.
Go for it!
Ransom
So sorry to hear all of your problems and I hope you regain mobility soon. I know what it's like to have an aged Mother on the scene. I will take your advice and do it slowly.
will do, and thanks
Whilst I am against fluoridation, I am intrigued why there seems to be no clear evidence of thyroid issues in those who were brought up in South Shields in the earlier part of the twentieth century when they had a fairly high (1.4 ppm) fluoride level.
What to do?
In a general election campaign, one obvious tactic is to contact all prospective candidates in your constituency and enquire of their policy, make your views clear, or whatever. Ideally, we'd like to see parties have policies with which we agree, and this would be a start...
If you clean your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste and drink a glass of fluoridated water you have overdosed! Fluoride is dangerous but it only takes a health authority to tell the water company and they have no choice but to add industrial waste to our water!
Here's the current British state of play: telegraph.co.uk/news/scienc...
Another battle to fight? Sigh.
