has anyone done research in to the products available, I note some of them have no floouride by have xyllitol!
Also does anyone filter their drinking water to remove flouride? If so any recommendations for a filter?
thanks anhone!

Hi
I was just about to reply to say that UK water is not fluoridated. I know that mine is not (Southern Water), but I did a quick check and some regions are. I think you would need to either distill the water or use reverse osmosis. Standard filters (like Brita) won't work. Maybe bottled water is the way forwards - or moving to a non fluoridated region?!!
I use Kingfisher toothpaste, which has no fluoride. It seems to work at cleaning my teeth nicely, but probably has other nasties in it somewhere...

But it looks like the Southampton fluoridation project is going ahead and last time I looked that was very much in the south!

Not sure if anything has happened since August last year?
And, auldreekie, what is wrong with xylitol?
Baby water has no floride and comes in gallons size
They have it at Walmart in water isle called"nursery Water"
If you want a non-flouride toothpaste - you can buy it in Boots the Chemist (own brand) it is now called 'Smile'.
AloeDeent toothpaste is flouride free and tastes pleasant and fresh too.
Sorry, meant AloeDent.
thanks for toothpaste recommendations all.
Xylytol ; this is little extreme but it's not good for us, and is poisonous to dogs...

I rang Affinity (ex Veolia), they referred me here, now I have to see if .139 mg/l is a lot or not!
I'm in Hertfordshire.
I find it very annoying that everything we put near out mouths has to be sweet. I take a tiny B12 tablet that has asparamine in it. I won't buy that brand again. Why I ask? And why does tooth paste have to be sweet ?! Our pallets (scuse the pun!) are literally being conditioned...
How about this one !?
Cinnamon Nutmeg Toothpaste – Calcium Carbonate Base
2 tablespoons calcium carbonate (make your own by following this tutorial from Mama Natural)
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons extra-virgin coconut oil
1-2 teaspoons water (hydration rates may vary greatly according to region and personal preference – start with 1 and go from there)
3-4 drops cinnamon essential oil
2-3 drops nutmeg essential oil
Hi
I stopped using the tap water in my house for drinking and cooking last May when i was really ill with thyroid issues. I also switched to a toothpaste called Urtekram. I felt it essential to do all i could to manage my thyroid. I believe that if you have any auto immune diseases you should also avoid chemicals (eg in cleaning materials), aspartame, etc. I do what i can to avoid what i can.
You can't filter out fluoride best bet is to use bottled water. Reverse osmosis filters DO NOT remove fluoride.
I began using flouride toothpaste at the age of 19 because I was sick of having to have treatment every time I had a check up at the dentists. I only wish that I`d started using it earlier, then I would have been spared having a mouth full of fillings. Let`s face it, we need flouride in this country because british teeth are terrible, the worst in the world from what Iv`e read.
My teeth and gums problems only improved once I was diagnosed and medicated for thyroid disease. Prior to that, I saw umpteen dentists who all insisted my problems were of my own causing. I was obviously not brushing, brushing incorrectly, brushing too hard, eating the wrong things etc. etc
One dentist said I obviously slept with my mouth partly open, which caused dry mouth, which in turn caused my gum problems. It was only after the thyroid diagnosis that I realised I'd been suffering from insufficient saliva for many, many years. I had always needed a drink of water or juice with meals, otherwise I couldn't get past a few mouthfuls.
Once on sufficient thyroid medication, I have more saliva than I can ever remember, and no longer even think about the need for a drink with my meals!
Are you sure your dentist didn't just want the money for the fillings? When I was a child, I had fillings every time I went to the dentist, even though I brushed properly and wasn't allowed sweets. In those days fillings were done without any anaesthetic. I was also punished for "getting sweets form somewhere". When I as a student, I had a dental X ray done and was told that all the fillings were set in tiny holes that showed no evidence of decay - dentist just wanted the money he got from fillings (they didn't get anything for just doing checkups) so he ruined my teeth and filled me full of mercury.
That has occured to me after I saw a programme about unscrupulous NHS dentists some years ago. My dentist wasn`t a nice person, & I can easily imagine that she did fillings just for the money, however, that was 40 years ago, & Iv`e no way of proving it. One thing though, my dental health did improve significantly when I began using flouride toothpaste. If my parents had been halfway intelligent they would have got me some when I was a child.
Yes, that had occured to me, because my dentist wasn`t a very pleasant person, & would probably think nothing of seeing patients as cash cows. I have to admit that my dental health improved no end after I started using flouride toothpaste, & my present dentist says that my teeth are healthier than most people my age. I have no way of proving whether my fillings were necessary or not because they were done 40 years ago, but I do wish that my parents had had the intelligence to buy me flouride toothpaste when I was small, but then what can you expect from idiots!
Most of my peers (I',m 58 ) can display mouth's full of amalgam fillings carried out by NHS dentists who very paid per filling in their youth. It's all coming to bits for me now , cracked teeth, extractions and wearing out amalgam (and the NHS won't take the correct precautions for removing mercury for anyone with auto immune disease never mind anyone else.) By the way the dentishtalways exclaims on how clean my teeth are - clean doesn't mean healthy in this case and it seems this may be true of a lot of situations...
I use a reverse osmosis system, this link to Andrew's Water Treatment website will give you information on systems and filters;
If you have a water meter then beware that your water usage will increase with an RO system and also they require some routine maintenance - Maddie
