Hi would like some advice. I have recently noticed that I am having some food sensitivities to chocolate, milk and a few others. I was wondering has this to do with hashimotos or something else and what can I do about it.

Thanks

Annette12, it's not uncommon to develop food sensitives with Hashimoto's. Try an elimination test to see which specific foods are causing problems by avoiding one food type for 2 weeks to see whether symptoms improve and then reintroduce it to see whether symptoms worsen. You need to keep a food/symptoms diary to track this and only eliminate/reintroduce one food group at a time. Having established that chocolate or milk or tomatoes is the problem you will need to avoid those.

Annette, This is not a good time of year to become sensitive to Chocolate! I'm sulking because my caramel eggs weren't delivered with my grocery order :x

Try the 70%-90% cocoa dark chocolate if you think milk is a problem.

Yes Clutter its going to be a very unhappy Easter for me. Oh I can smell those caramel eggs now. Oh I hope I am ok with the dark chocolate I will be trying this tomorrow. I do have a feeling it is milk as ice cream gives me problems. Thanks again clutter.

I've had problems with chocolate at times and actually thought it was quite quite handy as it kept me away from them :p

Clutter, are tomatoes a common problem? I had stomach trouble yesterday after tomatoe soup ,I put it down to the other fruit I had eaten: banana,Apple, orange all for lunch.

Tomatoes are part of the Nightshade Family and can be irritating to many - like peppers - aubergines - potatoes ( same family ) :-(

Treepie, any food can trigger a food sensitivity but tomatoes and other nightshades are common villains. I avoid cucumber and raw peppers as they give me indigestion and heartburn but I'm fine with cooked peppers.

Try eliminating tomatoes for 2 weeks and then reintroduce to see if they are what is upsetting you. Ditto the other ingredients in your soups but eliminate and reintroduce one food group at a time so you know for sure what is causing problems.
