I've added b12 sublingual and I can tell I'm taking it. I feel the surge of energy and what's really strange is my vision is clearer when I feel the hit. Does anyone know of this happening?

Sorry, I take 5000mcg sublingual B12 but I can't say I've noticed any improvement in my vision.

I wonder if it's the Nature Thyroid doing it. I'm not sure. I've been on the NT for about three months. Do you take the B12 in the morning or nite or does it not matter? And do you take it some time out from other meds?

I'm in remission from Graves so I'm not taking any thyroid meds at the moment.

I take my B12 in the morning ( don't think it matters when you take it)along with my blood pressure meds and my other vitamins - a multi Vit/mineral CoQ10, a B complex, Vit C, Vit D, and a couple of probiotics. It might be the NT That's making the difference! Lots of people on here take B12 so it will be interesting to see what other people think.

Can you educate me? What is Graves Disease? I need to get on mult vitamins. I don't take any and just started taking the B12. I've been having other side effects though. I have energy and not feeling tired but my hair is coming out in droves and my skin is peeling. I don't understand all of this. My hair doesn't fall in droves every day, but there are days where it's just really bad. I am still trying to get leveled and I'm not there yet; I can tell. I used to be on Armour and I wasn't getting my shipments like I should have been and went three months without meds which my hypo came in with avengence and now I'm trying to get back on track and I have to say it's been tough.

Thank you for sharing your post with me. I wish it was all an exact science but it's not. Tell me how you knew you had Graves.

Graves is when you are hyperactive and have antibodies. Your system is totally hyped up - bit like a Duracell bunny.

I had known for a long time that I wasn't well and suspected it was an autoimmune problem but I just didn't get the right one. Eventually I had a very near miss in the car one Tuesday evening, went to the doctor next day, had bloods the day after and by the Friday I had started on anti thyroid meds to calm things down. I had a pounding heart, lost two stones in weight, was incredibly hot, couldn't sleep, very stressed and anxious all the time, had no muscle tone in my legs - if I git down on the ground for any reason I needed help to get back up because I was so weak. I had been to see a doctor at the end of August only to be told that I 'needed my holiday' I came out almost crying with frustration and said to my husband that it was obvious the doctor thought I was a total hypochondriac - you could see it in her face. By November I was seriously ill.

Feel fine now though 😊

I bought Centrum A-Z multivitamin but I was reading the other day that they aren't the best - they contain some sort of chemical so once I have finished this lot I will begin the hunt for a different make. I must say I really felt getting my B12 and Vit D up to a good level really helped my energy levels - well along with a good diet.

Seemed to be more then one problem ingredient in centrum!

debber profile image
debber in reply toTreepie

Oh wow, I won't be taking that. What's a good multi to take?

Treepie profile image
Treepie in reply todebber

That is really tricky.I have been trying the horridly expensive Nutri Shield but discovered one capsule with many ingredients I want contains one we do not want I.e. Iodine. I emailed the company and their boss Dr. Said excess would be excreted but folks on this site think otherwise. I used to take Healthspan but guess what ,I checked yesterday- iodine ,even more than Nutri Shield.

Someone here suggested Viridian which I had not heard of ,their over 65 which has no iodine ,and I am 70 next ,but the product for younger folk I think has iodine. So may be best to go separately for what you mainly need and hope a good diet provides the rest.

debber profile image
debber in reply toTreepie

Treepie, when we get older we don't need the iodine? I get my iodine from my doctor. In fact, I'm out of it and have been since last summer. I will be getting some when I go back to her next week. I seemed to do better when I'm on the iodine.

Treepie profile image
Treepie in reply todebber

I am Hypo ,Debber ,not hyper ,as I understand it if Hypo and on T4 no iodine should be taken. It may be different if hyper I do not know but someone here will.

If ok for you there would appear to be choices.

debber in reply toTreepie

My thyroid is underactive. I get confused between the two. Sorry. So you're the opposite from me, then. I feel really fatigued when I wasn't taking anything. I'm still getting leveled and haven't found it yet.

Treepie profile image
Treepie in reply todebber

I think wires are crossed somewhere .If you are like a Duracell battery you are not likely to be hypo. Graves goes with Hyper, Hashimotos with hypo.

I think you really must clarify with your doc what you are. Then start a new post re pros and cons of extra iodine based on your diagnosis.

I have just looked up iodine in STTM and it says some Hypo folk feel worse but others felt it helped especially if supported with nutrients including : Vit C, D, magnesium, zincselenium, sea salt, and ATP Co Factors( whatever they are) plus detoxing teas.

Forgot I had read that before. Seems there are contrary views ,what do I know!

Ask your doc to explain.

debber profile image
debber in reply toTreepie

I am under active but fatiqued when not on meds but energetic when on them. Sorry I confused you. So I guess hyper. And yeah my doc has me on iodine. In fact I noticed I don't get sick ad much since taking it, not once this winter. Thanks for the clarification. I get confused with hypo and hyper.

Treepie profile image
Treepie in reply todebber

Your profile which you provided says you are hypo. I can understand the confusion and the endo I saw said the thyroid is simple - what arrogance!.

I still think you need to check with your Dr ,Hypo or Hyper ...that is the Question!

debber profile image
debber in reply toTreepie

Well I'll have to change it then. Its under active so its hyper. I'm being treated for under active. It doesn't make enough. But I will be seeing her next week for blood work and I'm not leveled yet but I know I will be.

Treepie profile image
Treepie in reply todebber

I see it was after midnight when you posted ,you should be in bed! Under active is hypo ,overactive is hyper !

Think of Startrek's Hyperdrive ,shooting off into the far Galaxy . I have never been hyper even when well!

Good luck next week.

Yes there are contrary views as my adrenal specialist recommends I take a spoonful of kelp powder daily and have had no adverse effects, I am also hypo.

Treepie profile image
Treepie in reply toJoyia

I think I will have to re read all the books I purchased when diagnosed last year, I clearly did not retain a lot!

I thought I was beginning to understand what to take and what to avoid but it seems practitioners and our unique metabolisms have different ideas.

Joyia profile image

I use Viridian as recommended by my adrenal specialist

You're right. Unfortunately I can't find the article I was reading or the article about the best ones around. Will keep looking.

Wow, that's amazing. I have people tell me I'm like the Duracell Bunny and I wonder as some of the symptoms you explain is how I feel at times. My energy level is thru the roof sometimes. I don't have any problem sleeping though and most of the time I don't have anxiety except when I start see my hair fall out in droves; it bothers me. I have an appointment with my doctor and she's really good, I like her, and we will get blood work done and see what is going on. I haven't had blood work in a while. In fact, I'm going to call her to see if I can get my labs done before I go to see her that way we can discuss it.

I happy you finally found out what was going on with you. It takes a while to figure things out and we do know when things are not right. Yeah, not all doctors are created equal, for sure. I've never had a doctor tell me what was going on until I got in my 40s and I've struggled with hypo for all of my life. I believe I had it when I was a child and I believe my mom has it. It is something that gets overlooked by so many doctors and there are a lot of people walking around that have it and don't even realize it. It truly is sad. We are better people when we are at out best and I think this is one of things that is going wrong in our world today.

Thank you for sharing your story and educating me. I had no idea what Graves Disease is but I do now. There is so much to this thyroid stuff; it's very complexing.

You take care of yourself and thank you for your posts. They really helped me.

You too. Hope you get sorted out too. I think it's a good idea to get your blood work done then you can discuss the results - saves having to go back after you get your results. Are you going to ask for B12, Vit D, folates and ferritin as well as a a full thyroid panel? Are you based in the US? Over here it is very difficult to get 'fine tuned' our doctirs generally seem to be happy if you are somewhere 'within range' which is fine if you happen to be at the point where you feel best but if you aren't at the point within the range that is good for you then it's tough luck.

Yeah, I go next week on the 27th. For some reason I was thinking it was tomorrow but it's next week and I can't wait. I told Pat (Receptionist/Office Manager) about my side effects and she said to go up another tablet on my Nature Thyroid. And yeah, my doc is good about doing the whole panel. I can't wait as something is not right. I had one of these days today where I'm struggling,, but I am trying to stay strong. I cope with it better now as I know what it is. Before I just thought that was the way it was. It's the same feel as when I was a kid and before I was put on meds for all of this.

Yeah, I'm in the U.S. But our medical is terrible here as if you lose your job or don't make much money you have trouble paying for it. It's still expensive even with the Obama Care in my opininion. My doctor that I go to insurance doesn't cover and I pay out of pocket but she is worth every penny of it.

I will be sure to post my results to you. Something is defintitely out of whack, for sure.

Thank you for posting to me. I hope things can start turning around with all of this. this has been going on for about four to five months now.

Fruitandnutcase profile image
Fruitandnutcase in reply todebber

Good luck with it all. Like you say once you know what the problem is it's easier to live with it.

I always thought that if you had to pay to visit your doctor like you do in the US you would get good care but a couple of friends have said exactly the same as you have said - that that's definitely not the case.

Another person I know the husband can't retire yet because they are both diabetic and they need the cover they get from his work. It's very hard.look forward to hearing how toyou get on - and I hope it's good news 😊

Yes, we have a crap system here. I have to say it's for the rich. We don't take care of our elderly people at all and they've worked all their lives. I want to move to a country where it is for everyone no matter what your income is. Everyone should have the healthcare they need in order to be the best they can. Yeah, if I go to a provider that my insurance covers they tell me nothing is wrong lol This doctor I see does the full blown panel and she can look at me and tell my symptoms. I don't get it. I'm not saying all of the ones with insurance are that way, it's just what I have experienced. I was told by my doc of insurance to go on anti depressants lol

debber profile image
debber in reply todebber

That's why the majority of our country is on them as they don't take the time to really fix the problem. I believe there are lots of people that are in anti depressants and it's thyroid-related.

Also I've had terrible headache today, too. I can tell when this surge comes too. I woke up feeling it this morning before I even got up. It's funny how our body tells us. I pay attention to my body a lot and I can tell.

I am confused about iodine. I am underactive - should I be taking it ? If so how much.?

debber profile image
debber in reply toging

Hi Ya Ging,

Yeah, my doctor has me on iodine and it's the potent stuff. Most of the iodine that's sold in health places it's not that potent so you have to add more. I am hyper and she wants me on it. In fact, she took some of the liquid iodine and placed it on my arm (where elbow at on inside) and my body absorbed it right up and you couldn't even tell anything was there. It was pretty amazing. Ask your doctor about it definitely.

I feel better taking it and I haven't been sick since I have been taking it and it's been a couple of years. Let me know what you find out. I'm curious.
