It is definitely a good idea for you to supplement iron. The middle of the range you have given is approximately 160ng/ml, and is what you should be aiming to get your level up to.
Is Floradix the only iron supplement you can buy? if you can buy and tolerate something with a higher iron content it would be better, but if you can't tolerate anything else, it is better than not supplementing at all. Take each dose of Floradix with 500mg - 1000mg of vitamin C. This will help the body to absorb the iron you are taking. And as an added bonus, vitamin C is very good for the adrenal glands.
Don't forget to get re-tested after you have been on the iron supplements for a few months - perhaps 3 months? I'm not sure with a low-dose supplement how often to suggest re-testing, to be honest.
If ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is tough on your stomach and you find it hard to tolerate it you could try it in other forms but you would need to do some research about it first. I can't make any personal suggestions about this because I haven't tried them.
If Floradix is a liquid then you should drink it through a straw to try and prevent it from touching your teeth. There is a big danger with liquid iron that teeth get stained black.
I can get other supplements but they are all not high in iron. And they are pills, at the moment I have trouble with swallowing, I think my thyroid is swollen again so I feel pills getting stuck. That's why I thought of Floradix, if I put it in fresh orange juice should I still take it with a straw?
How much iron would you recommend? I could take more than the package says of course, I don't know much about iron so I have no clue what dose is good.
I think you should still take Floradix with a straw even if you mix it with orange juice.
I think you should stick to taking the recommended amount of the Floradix. There may be other substances in it which shouldn't be taken in excess, so I don't think it is worth the risk to take more than is suggested.
Thank you! I will take the maximum dose that Floradix says on the package. I think I will retest in about 6-8 weeks, that should be enough time to see if it's doing something I guess?
Thanks Jackie, I did this test myself so only the ferritin is possible. Last time checked my iron was just in the middle (but this was after eating, doctor didn't say I should fast).
I'm dealing with low ferritin as well and IMHO, Floradix doesn't contain enough iron to work - at only 10mg of iron per 2 teaspoon dose, you'd have to drink a bottle a day to see results.
I've had good results taking Ferrex-150 (150 mg of EI in one capsule) along with Ferritin Bioavailable Iron (5mg) capsuke and 1000 IU Vit C. My ferritin levels rose from 17.7 to 49 in 6 weeks. Both supplements available on Amazon and pricing is good.
I don't know about the ranges, but don't take Floradix as it contains gluten! You will get far better results with a 200 to 400 mg tablet from behind the counter at the pharmacist!
I've been searching but in my country iron pills with that dose (100-200mg) are only on prescription. Supplements don't go higher than 25mg. So I guess the Floradix isn't such a bad idea..
