Sorry I am new to this site and I am looking for some advice. I have been the doctors again and I have been told that all my blood tests are normal. We just need to carry out more tests ! My Sister and friend have suggested that I may have a under active thyroid but results say it is normal. I cant seem to get any answers from the doctor. I have been struggling for sometime feeling tired all the time , full of aches and pins all over, weight gain , and pins and needles in my hands and my joints i.e elbows and wrists are really painful. I am sick of feeling low I just don't seem to have any get up and go in me and I try and try but find it really hard to motivate myself !

I have put weight on before but I have never ever felt like this, I need to lose some weight a couple of stone that's all, but I am trying but am not getting anywhere ! I had various bloods carried out but not sure what to add on here to be honest. My thyroid results are as follows TSH level 3.0 and T4 level 13.4 any feedback would be a great help as I am just trying to understand what is going on with me !

Aly, safe to say that a TSH of 3 cannot be considered normal if you have those symptoms, they just do not wish to treat. It would be good to see the ranges for your blood test but 13. for your FT4 appears low. Often, other blood tests will also reveal low numbers since your thyroid affects so many systems of the body.

Hi, I am very sorry you are having all those clinical symptoms. It's a pity that nowadays doctors ignore the symptoms in favour of the blood tests only.

Do you have the ranges for your tests? Why we ask is that labs differ throughout the country and it makes it easier to respond.

Your TSH is climbing higher but in the UK, doctors have been told not to prescribe levo until our TSH is 10 while the civilised countries medicate if the patient reaches around 3 taking symptoms into consideration.

Next time, get your blood test as early as possible as TSH might just be a bit higher and some doctors will medicate around 5 with symptoms.

From now on get a print-out of your blood test results with the ranges for your own records and so that you can post if you have a query. I feel really sorry for you but it's a fact that they appear not to care that the patient is suffering. No wonder some are driven to self-medicate which isn't ideal. Ask your GP to do the tests on the last link (if he wont) maybe you can get a private on done. Some informative links:

You wouldn't believe it till you become hypothyroid that you could be dismissed. The UK guidelines for diagnosing must be the worst in the world.

Aly, my last blood test TSH was 3.2 (although I was being medicated with Levothyroxine) and I felt like a zombie. I have since started self medicating, first with T3 and then with NDT and I have never looked back.

With the help of the lovely knowledgeable people on this site, you will start to feel better. If you need to know anything just post and you will get a mountain of information.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life...

Pins and needles can be a sign of low B12. I hope the doctor is checking your levels. Joint pain can be made worse if you have low vitamin D (my doctor says everyone has low vitamin D in this country). Low iron/ferritin makes you feel exhausted. While you are waiting for your results, and deciding whether to self medicate for the thyroid it may be worth taking Vitamin D and B12 to see whether you can improve things a bit. In fact try a good multivitamin for a while and see if it helps a bit while you wait for your results. People with failing thyroids very often get low on vitamins and iron. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you all for your comments. I have misplaced my blood results somewhere ! typical !! but as soon as I locate them I will put some more results up for some feedback. Thank you for taking the time to comment , its nice to know I am not the only one who feels that they get no where with their doctor.

I started to feel like at 42 I was old which is totally not something I would have said a few years ago ! Age is only a number. Hopefully with your help and guidance I will start feeling like the old me again ! instead of being as I say to my other half a bore for not wanting to do anything since my get up and go ! got up and left me :)
