Has anybody got any experience of the Thyroid Team at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge? I think I'm going to ask my GP for a referral. The main three would appear to be Professor Krishna Chatterjee, Dr Diana Wood and Dr Helen Simpson. Please PM me.
Many thanks

First one was with head honcho, who was typically dismissive BUT did agree to prescribe T3 (she believed that suppressed TSH was totally bad and I almost politely disagreed). Follow-up appointment was with junior honcho, who listened a bit more and thought I was getting on okay with the T3 so confirmed the prescription and discharged me back to my GP. I'm now being left alone to work out my dose (a good thing) and just get the GP to test fT3 every so often.
Hi, I live in Cambridge and would also like to ask about the Thyroid Team. I have been on 40mcg T3 for almost 4 years now. I was doing incredibly well for 3 years but since my illness last October, things have started to deteriorate a bit. Hypo symptoms got stronger and although I started to raise / experiment with the dose, I still can't get it right. I used to live in Wiltshire and there in the hospital my endocrinologist was pretty open minded regarding T3 and a mono treatment. I moved to Cambridge last October and found a nice GP. She carried on prescribing the T3 but she left the surgery a few months ago. The other GP knows nothing about T3, and also with the DROP list and all the cost cuts she now wants to reconsider my medication. I went through hell with T4 and I would refuse to go back on it. However, without the NHS prescription, there is no way I can afford the 3 boxes for £750 pounds a month... I will have to have a blood test next week, and then I will have an appointment with the GP again. I will try and ask her to refer me to Addenbrooke's to see a specialist. When I was in Wiltshire I was advised to see Professor Chatterjee. However, I doubt I would be able to make an appointment with him. As you seem to have some experience, who would you recommend to try and see? Are they open enough regarding the T3 treatment? Also, you don't know a GP in Cambridge, who is open-minded enough regarding T3?
I would really appreciate if you could get back to me. Or anyone, who knows a good GP in Cambridge.
I saw Dr Wood, who was resistant to almost everything I told her but STILL prescribed T3 for me. Don't know about a GP in Cambridge itself as I'm outside the city.
Thanks for your reply. For some reason I would have thought that if nowhere else than in Cambridge the Thyroid team is a bit more open-minded regarding T3 and the rest...
If you are referred to prof C , you'll probably only see him once, as he's scaling down his thyroid clinics! Then you'll end up seeing the under study. TBH , I've found its all , chase, chase, chase, with this hospitals thyroid clinic, I'm not impressed
