Does anyone else suffer from it,I can't even have a conversation sometimes without getting out of breath and having to cough
Breathless: Does anyone else suffer from it,I can... - Thyroid UK
Breathless
I think you may be undermedicated as breathlessness is a clinical symptom.
I looked at your Profile but you haven't put in any history of your thyroid. It makes it easier for members to look at the Profile rather than asking questions you have already answered
I've now looked at some of your questions and I don't think you've yet been diagnosed with a thyroid gland problem although your B12 is very low and will give you symptoms too.
I think you should see your GP again, because your breathlessness should be investigated.
You are low in everything - this will cause breathlessness....
I get very breathless when I need a B12 injection, or if I haven't taken my iron for a few days. I hope this helps, it's so important to get all your vits and minerals near the top of the range.
Breathlessness, confusion, weekness etc etc are commonly found with B12 deficiency (Pernicious Anaemia) This is a common defiency and can run alongside thyroid conditions and gut absorbtion conditions such as chrones. The charity b12d.org and The Pernicious Anaemia Society are very helpful. You are perfectly within your rights to ask GP for a theraputic trial of B12 injections (every other day for 10 injections worth as a loading dose) See how you feel. People can have something called 'Functional' B12 deficiency wherby theymay well have normal (even high) levels in their blood but are unable to make use of it. Look up 'Diagnosing & Treating B12 defiency' on You Tube' If GP refuses trial then you can get vials of B12 c/o the charity b12d.org and learn how to self inject in exchange for a small donation (voluntary) Good luck! :'-)
I only got my bloods yesturday,
b12 =145
Vit d =36
Folate=3.6
Tsh=2.57

Ferritin is 48

Shaws has been a great help already,by the way iam a 36 soon to be 37 year old women if that helps
Hi I've just seen your comment. I think this response will have been missed by a lot of members. I would advise you to put your results in a new post with the ranges (ranges are important as labs differ and it makes it easier to comment) so that you will get more responses.
Also you don't say what the doc has prescribed, is it levothyroxine, Vitamin D or Vit B12. and give the dose too of whatever the meds are.
I think they are all in the post I put about getting my blood results would have been Mon the 19th the day I found out my problem, nothing wrong with my thyroid these are the meds I'm on
50mcg of cyanocobalamin
800 unit of colecalciferol
5mg of folic acid
All 1 tab per day
Ok. I think there's been a cross-over between PAS and Thyroiduk as I am an Admin on Thyroiduk.
Put my results on this one

Found this and wondered if it would be helpful
Thankfully, you have been given injections for your very low B12. Your GP may say you have no problem with your Thyroid Gland but I'm not too sure as we can have more than one autoimmune condition. This is a link for your info although there could be a cross-over at present between B12 deficiency and Thyroid.
You may well do better on Jarrow Methylcobalamin rather than the Cyanocobalamin - to top up with between injections....any news ?
I too have this problem, sometimes it is really bad but I have been unable to get my GP to even acknowledge that it may have something to do with my thyroid.
I do have an under active Thyroid in addition to cardiac issues (pacemaker
defibrillator implant) and COPD.
The the discussion has been useful cos I have always assummed COPD causes
my breathing probs
Hi Joeltite1, I think that B12 level looks low. Mine was 176 when I started getting treatment, I was also quite breathless. I had been given puffers for asthma before the Low B 12 diagnosis. Having read a bit about it, you can have red blood cells that are macrocyctic, meaning too large. This means there is a problem transferring oxygen to the lungs and re-absorbing the carbon dioxide. So your whole lung process is messed up, and sometimes you literally end up gasping for breath. It's definitely worth checking your thyroid function too. MariLiz
Hope the new doctor can offer you some help. Wishing you well. MariLiz
I am sure the low dose is making you worse. Your iron and b12 are low too. But, getting mine up didn't help my symptoms as long as my thyroid meds were too low.
I only started the tablets yesturday so no idea if they will help ? I'm not on anything for thyroid as he says there is nothing wrong there ?
I started taking vitamins and minerals as I wondered if I wasn't converting well or the thyroxin wasn't getting into the cells where it was needed. It took me over six months for me to really feel the difference. My FT3 reading is now higher in the range and I am feeling a lot better though not perfect. My FT4 reading is now very high without increasing my Levo so there is still a difference on the scale between FT3 and FT4 so I may not be converting well but the other things have certainly helped. You really need your FT3 reading though to see the whole picture. You need to get your vitamins etc to be near the top of their ranges to assist the conversion, then bring the Thyroid bloods into play.
Hi agree with Shaw's you need to have your doctor investigate this, it could be thyroid related or something like Emphysma or Asthma.
Dr doesn't seem that helpfull tbh,my b12 being 145 range 180-910 he Said on the phone tonite it wasn't that low so don't want to give you injections yet see how the tablets work for 3 months even though im getting the some horrible symptoms,iam at a loss
Joeltite, Ask your GP to read these guidelines bcshguidelines.com/document...
He should be investigating why you are B12 deficient ie do you have pernicious anaemia in which case you need lifelong B12 injections, have you gut issues preventing you breaking down and absorbing B12 from food, or are you are vegan or vegetarian in which case you need loading injections to restore your B12 levels and you can then self supplement methylcobalamin to mitigate your dietary deficiency.
If he won't start you on injections I suggest you see another GP or change practice because you are at risk of developing irreversible neurological symptoms without them. You can also ask for advice on the HU PAS forum.
He is waiting for my intrinsic factor results back,they where only done Monday and can take uo to 3 weeks,he only did that test as I kept on about my symptons,he also did a thyroid antibodies one as well,I'm not a veggie/vegan,I told him on the phone tonite i read up on it all and he Said they aren't doctors,he knows best,im in bed most afternoons as I can't stay awake or feel so crap he wont jab me unless its desperate iam desperate
