NDT? Should I increase dose when ill with unrelated illness? Bronchitis/chest infection. Currently doing very well on 3 grains.

Malone, I've not heard that dose should change because of non-thyroidal illness other than some antibiotics can affect uptake of NDT with some increasing absorption and uptake and others decreasing it and tweaking may be necessary if that is the case.

I just had the dreaded chest infection which is doing the rounds...... It lasts a couple of weeks and makes you feel pretty tired.... It never occurred to me to increase my meds.. ( I take 3 grains). Not sure why you would increase them. Would have thought the chest infection is bad enough with out adding hyper symptoms to it.... :-(.

I think thyroid hormone levels decrease in normal healthy people when they are ill. I'm guessing that it is a self-preservation technique used by the body to make people slow down and rest while they are battling an illness. I'm not saying anyone should decrease their dose of thyroid hormones when sick - but I do think it might be unwise to increase it.

Yeah, doctors killed the ICU patients by giving them I.V. thyroid hormone. When the body can't take more, it needs to left to its own devices.

I'm willing to bet that absorption of thyroid meds reduces during some illnesses too. But that doesn't mean they should be raised. Stay in bed with lots of tissues, drink tea with honey and lemon, watch YouTube videos. The honey is supposed to be good and the lemon has a bit of vitamin C.... not much.

Thyroid hormone levels decrease in bears when its time for them to hibernate, so it makes sense that they would decrease in humans when we need to rest and get better..... Well it makes sense to me at any rate. :-).

Hi That is a good dose. Personally I would not but ride the storm.

Perhaps increase vitamins and healthy food instead. And definitely increase rest and tlc.
