I started levothyroxine 50mg (my TSH was 5.7) a week ago so far haven't seen many changes.

How long does it take to see some effects?

It will take several months for you to get the the right dose for you. A blood test should be taken around every 4 to 6 weeks and an increase given. It probably takes years for us to become hypo so therefore it is a slow process to build up the dose. I hope you don't have a GP who relies on the TSH to indicate the amount of medication, it should be how you feel that dictates the amount.

When you have a blood test for the thyroid gland, don't take medication on the morning of the test, which should be as early as possible and get a print-out of your blood tests with the ranges.
