Hi everyone, I have pernicious aneamia and am sure Im suffering with thyroid problems, hypo I think, I was borderline 18months ago, I have struggled with fatigue etc and a sore throat ( feels like a lump, feels worse in the morning and this time of year) for years can any one tell me of any good private thyroid Drs in Cumbria. I am also considering buying Hypitrol from Amazon, please can any one advise me if this is any good or if there are better alternatives I could buy.mAny advice will be appreciated as my Dr just wants to give me antidepressants, she refuses to believe I struggle through every day.
Doctor recommendations via private messages please in line with posting guideline #24, thank you.
jcwg, I'd recommend you request a follow up thyroid blood test if your last was 18 months ago and borderline. If your own GP is unsympathetic perhaps see another GP at your practice. Ask for a printout of your results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after your results) and post them in a new question for members to comment.
Hi, I requested a list from Louise last week but all are a long way from Cumbria, most were in London. I went to see My Rheumatology nurse 1 year ago and TSH came back at about 3.5 , I went again on Friday just waiting for results, I'm just expecting it will be lower again. I thought it was maybe time to go it alone and try to help myself in whatever way I can, they completely refuse to do T3 and T4.
If your GP does a blood test ask for a Full Thyroid Function test and antibodies. Also ask for Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.
It is important to have the blood test as early as possible as the TSH is highest then and that's what the place their diagnosis on (a pituatary hormone).
Before the blood tests we were diagnosed on clinical symptoms alone and prescribed NDT. When the blood tests came in the doctors don't know/recognise clinical symptoms and diagnose only on the TSH which for some doesn't rise sufficiently to be prescribed but are suffering all the same.
Post you blood test results on a new question for members to comment.
The last time antibodies were negative, not sure what that means, ok I will do, Dr won't test b12 as on b12 injection every 8 wks, I did ask for ferritin and folate, will defo ask for iron and vit d, tho I am prescribed vit d so it should be high. Thank you
You may still need to have Vit D tested. Some GP's think taking a daily dose is enough but if you were very low you may have needed series of booster doses and then when a a respectable level a maintenance dose to keep it up there. A low dose when already depleted won't really do anything.
