Hoping someone might be able to give me some info on having a supresed TSH when taking T3 please. I need to show something to my doctor otherwise I'm panicking a bit that they're going to reduce my meds! I'm currently taking 75mcg T4 and 20mcg T3. Thanks!
I have used the following articles. I'm not sure what the consultant thought of them, but I am still being prescribed both T3 and T4 !
Myths of Hypothyroidism - if you scroll down there are sections "The Myth of TSH as the 'Golden Measure' of Thyroid Health" and "The Myth that a suppressed TSH leads to osteoporosis" - thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/thyroi...
I love this quote (towards the bottom of the first link)
"If you were taking too much thyroid hormone, the ensuing symptoms of hyperactivity would prompt you to reduce your dose. Conversely, if you weren't taking enough you would feel unwell anyway and would increase your dose until you did feel well. When you are taking the right amount to actually feel well again your TSH will be suppressed because you have taken control of your thyroid hormone input away from your pituitary."
So very true. And yet so many GPs seem hellbent on reducing thyroxine dosage on the grounds of TSH suppression. No one in their right mind would choose to have hyper-type symptoms and insist on taking more thyroid replacement medication than is needed to feel well.
Grrr.

Yes you're so right. Being over medicated is really quite unpleasant! We just want to feel better but why is this so hard?! X

Thanks for these links. There's a really good quote from a lab about TSH not really correlating with T3 - thank you!!! Hopefully this will help save me... X
