I have been supplementing with b12 for the past 3mths with sublingual lozenges. Took 5000mcg for 2 mths. Had bloods drawn and it has jumped from 250 to 1886 range 191-661. Should i be concerned ad its so high. Feeling well since it had risen. Thanks.

Annette, you can't OD on B12 as excess is excreted but as your levels are so high you can stop supplementing as there's no point in peeing out expensive supplements. Try and retest after 4 months which is the time it takes for red blood cells to die off and renew.

I was wondering if Annette might not store her b12 very well and perhaps this is why she is feeling well with her levels high. I had similar levels in my blood when I was taking 1000 a day.

PB, she may have felt unwell with low levels and feels better now they've improved but the only way to determine whether or not she holds on to levels is to stop supplementing and retest after 4 months. If Annette feels better with high levels there's no danger if she prefers to continue supplementing.

Don't forget the range is 500-1300 in Japan :-) Also I have read that testing whilst taking B12 does result in skewed readings....

Glad you are feeling better....me too :-)

Mine was 2500 after supplementing long enough to get rid of neurological symptoms. I think it must hang around in the blood and not get to where it is needed very easily. Although one is supposed to store B12, if I stop for more than 2 or 3 days, I get numb feet and an eye tic again. GP didn't even comment on the level.
