After going back to the GP for a moan about always feeling tired, no energy, fatigue, brain fog sleeping most afternoons for 2/3hrs. Had bloods done and the results are.., Serum ferritin 23ng/ml. TSH level 0.72 mu/L (0.27-4.2). That is the only Thyroid function test the GP will do. Full bold count done too but so many test results to post. I would be very grateful idf anyone can help me with these results please. I am currently on 100mcg of levothyroxine.

TATT, you are taking T4, the least they could do is see what the level is for FT4. It would tell you a little more about what's going on if it fairly high. Your free T3 is probably very low since you have symptoms. This could be due to adrenal dysfunction. It could also be that your FT4 isn't converting because your iron and ferritin is low. This is such a disgrace that they won't further diagnose your condition.

Check your other levels that were tested against this from Stop the Thyroid Madness website.

Some people have decided to take different steps rather than suffer this abysmal treatment that the NHS offers. You might try to seek out an endocrinologist instead.

reschy, learn as much as you can. It's a complicated condition which takes more than GP's care or are allowed to investigate. Fortunately most meds are over the counter if they refuse to prescribe. As Clutter said, you can even order your own blood tests if you can afford to do that. A whole thyroid panel is a little over 100 pounds through Blue Horizon.

I'm in the U.S. so can't advise.

I think this man has a much better understanding of thyroid conditions. Maybe you would enjoy some information in these 5-min. videos.

Because of your age, this one may be pertinent.

Reschy, your ferritin is too low. Optimal is 70-90. Supplement iron and take each dose with 500mcg-1,000mg vitamin C to aid absorption and mitigate constipation. Low iron causes fatigue and musculskeletal pain.

Your TSH is good but doesn't give a full thyroid picture. You can order private FT4 and FT3 tests from Blue Horizon and Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Hypothyroid patients are often low/deficient in vitamin D, B12 and folate and these can also cause fatigue, musculoskeletal pain and low mood. Ask your GP to test them.

Thank you Clutter. I have low mood and a real achy/painful back of the neck at the mo too. Back to the GP tomorrow morning going with lots of info and questions to ask.

I hate TATT, I think it is a rather dismissive acronym for what can be quite disabling symptoms.

To be fair pretty much everybody is low on Vitamin D. If the GP can't test it then a private test can be done for about £30 from vitamindtest.org.uk/. It is cheap enough to get your own vitamin D supplements online if required. The vitamin D council recommends everyone takes 5,000 IU daily. I think that is a bit high so I take 3,000.

I found significant improvement in fatigue after taking a "B complex vitamin" tablets. My B12 was OK and my Folate was only slightly low but even so I really noticed the difference. After taking the vitamins my B12 went over range and Folate to the top of range. I think the other B vitamins in the tablet are probably quite important too but I've never heard of anyone being tested for those, only B12 and Folate.

Again B vitamins are normally something you can safely supplement with an OTC product from Boots or wherever.

Thank you Yenool. TATT is very disabling epically when you loose so much of the day in bed asleep and your legs just don't want to work. Will ask GP about Vitamin supplements as going back tomorrow to discuss blood results.
